Re: What Are You Listening To? (May 2009 Edition)

Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears - Tell 'Em What Your Name Is!
honeyhoney - First Rodeo
Joey + Rory - Life of a Song

Mostly, though, I've finally gotten around to sifting through the old Star Trek soundtracks and putting together a compilation of music from the original series. Man, there were some great cues for that series!

Addendum - I recently purchased and have played:
Melody Gardot - Worrisome Heart
Norah Jones - Deep Cuts

Bulletproof

La Roux - Bulletproof [single] : Each La Roux single is even better than the last. Though unfortunately, this time none of the remixes are quite as amazing as Skream's mix of "In For The Kill", but then again not much is. I cannot wait for the album next month.

Antichrist Superstar
Marilyn Manson - Antichrist Superstar : For the ride into work this morning, I pulled this one out for the first time in ages. This is where I stopped paying attention, but I liked it a lot more than I remember.

Re: What Are You Listening To? (May 2009 Edition)

Dug out some old stuff to listen to at work today...

...with the last one being ironically poignant, in light of the news of Jay Bennett's death today - which I didn't find out about until five minutes ago.

Re: What Are You Listening To? (May 2009 Edition)

My Cabal
School of Seven Bells - My Cabal : New EP from my new favorites I'm a little late to the game to - one of the highlights from the album backed with a beautiful ambient piece and 2 great downtempo remixes. *sigh*

Touch Too Much / Hold On
Hot Chip - Hold On / Touch Too Much remixes : I forgot I had these - I had to reload iTunes a few months back and forgot that some things were hiding in a separate folder downloaded from Amazon.com. It was like Christmas in May.

This afternoon:

Photobucket
The Boxer Rebellion - Union : Quickly becoming my favorite of 2009 so far. Such a beautiful album.

Photobucket
Lady Sovereign - Jigsaw : Nowhere near as strong as 'Public Warning' but still a solid good time. [Outside of "Food Play", which is just bizarre.]

Guerrilla
Super Furry Animals - Guerrilla : Easily my favorite SFA album...one of my favorite albums overall, for that matter.

Couldn't agree more. Look at their output from this decade alone.
NYC City Ghosts & Flowers
Murray Street
Sonic Nurse
Rather Ripped
The Eternal

Today:

Sonic Youth - The Eternal

Wilco - Wilco (The Album)

Drive Like Jehu - Yank Crime (A classic, overlooked album)

Faster Pussycat - Wake Me When It's Over (May only be remembered for House of Pain, but nearly 20 years later, this blues-rock/pop metal album has aged well.)

I agree as well - except I think 'NYC ghosts + flowers' is one of the most abysmal, unlistenable, complete and utter piece of shit records of all time. I HATE it - though not quite as much as 'Goodbye 20th Century'. I like to forget the post-'A Thousand Leaves', pre-'Murray Street' stuff ever happened. Other than those three or so years, though, yes everything is a keeper. [Well, I haven't heard all of 'The Eternal' yet, but what I've heard I like quite a bit.]

Today:

OK Bear
Jeremy Enigk - OK Bear : I haven't decided how I feel about this one - not quite the "return to the sound of Sunny Day Real Estate" it was hyped up to me, but a big step up from the quite dull 'World Waits'.

Also:
Pet Shop Boys - Up and down [Tom Stephan Vocal Remix] : fantastic free download of a remix of a b-side from the upcoming "Did you see me coming?" single. Complete with "Opportunities" sample. nice
Kasabian - Vlad the Impaler : I am so excited for the album I can barely stand it. One more week.
