from pitchforkmedia:
New Bob Dylan Album Coming in April
Bob Dylan's last album, 2006's Modern Times, topped all kinds of critics' polls. Since then, we've seen a resurrection of Dylanology via stuff like I'm Not There, Todd Haynes' impressionistic Dylan biopic (and star-studded soundtrack), and the rarities collection Tell Tale Signs. So a new Bob Dylan album is a big deal, but don't expect him to announce it to great fanfare like, say, U2 or the Rolling Stones. That is not The Dylan Way.
As Rolling Stone reports and Dylan's publicist confirms, Bob Dylan will release his follow-up to Modern Times next month. Beyond that, details are characteristically scarce. The ten-song album has no title, release date (beyond "late April"), or cover just yet.
Rolling Stone's David Fricke says it has "a seductive border-cafe feel (courtesy of the accordion on every track) and an emphasis on struggling-love songs." Sample song titles: "I Feel a Change Coming On", "Beyond Here Lies Nothin'", "If You Ever Go to Houston", "This Dream of You", "My Wife's Home Town", "It's All Good". Sample lyric: "I'm listening to Billy Joe Shaver / And I'm reading James Joyce / Some people tell me I got the blood of the land in my voice." Yeah, sounds like a Bob Dylan album.
According to Rolling Stone, Dylan recorded the album after filmmaker Olivier Dahan requested a song for a movie. When Dylan finished that song, "Life Is Hard" (which will appear in the movie My Own Love Song, starring Renée Zellweger), he just kept recording. Fricke reports that Dylan produced the album under his Jack Frost pseudonym and that David Hidalgo of Los Lobos might play accordion on it.
-------------------
Wow! I thought we had a few years (if ever) before we would get another new Dylan album. I loved Modern Times so I'm definitely looking forward to this.

Who would have thought that in 2009 we'd be getting new albums from both Bob Dylan and Neil Young in the same month?

Although, from the sounds of it, Neil Young's new one will be one of his less
and more
and
(and perhaps
) albums that he's ever done. I mean, a concept album about electric cars?

Can't wait to hear this, I really dug "Modern Times" (more than "Love & Theft" actually). Any word on the release date yet?

I will be there on release day to get this one, without a doubt. I'm also hoping that he starts touring the US again before the end of the year, because I'd like to see him for my third time.

Picked this up yesterday and am enjoying it. It's definnitely got a little Los Lobos vibe thanks to the accordion. Early impressions are it's less bluesy than "Modern Times," a bit more casual album. So far quite enjoying "It's All Good," "Forgetful Heart" and "My Wife's Home Town."

Deluxe Edition is $15.99 at amazon now. Wonder how much it will be at Best Buy? The Theme Time Radio Hour would be cool to have.

Oh well, it's cool to have another Theme Time Radio Hour CD. I got one at Circuit City
during a promotion a couple of years ago. Its theme was "Baseball" and somehow they didn't include Centerfield, which is still sorta shocking to me.

Well, in what could only be described as a non-intentional meta joke, my copy of the Deluxe edition came today (love that Prime shipping), and inside the sleeve for Roy Silver - The Lost Interview (DVD) was...NOTHING.
Anyway, Amazon is sending me another copy by next-day air. I do love that company.

For what's it worth, the Deluxe Edition is a really nice package similiar in quality to the last Bootleg Series release - sturdy cardboard with the CD in a jewel case. It comes with a poster of the cover and a sticker as well as the Theme Hour in a slipcase and the DVD in a slipcase. Well worth the money, IMO.

I sprang for the deluxe edition at BB for $15.99 because I really wanted the Friends & Neighbors Theme Time disc. I've only listened to a few minutes but I'm gald I spent the extra money. It's great. I wish I ad picked up that Baseball one. What was that packaged with?

I don't yet know if it'll fit in the slipcover box with all the CE stuff, but I'll check it out tonight.

I am 7 tracks in and this is good stuff. The last 6 or so Dylan records have been phenomenal.
Also a note on the Theme Time...I had heard of the show but never actually "heard" it. I popped that one in first and I was very impressed. And as someone noted above, the reason a song like "Center Field" isn't chosen is because it would defeat the purpose of the show. As Bob says, "why would I play stuff you could hear anywhere?"
If any one is interested, I found a site that has all of the shows up for download. No idea as to what the legality of it is (Pay radio...not sure, I would assume someone might get upset about it). So if it is cool with the mods, I will post it. If not, then you will have to locate it on your own.

While I love the entire album already, these are the three tracks that I always have to listen to twice in a row:
4. If You Ever Go To Houston
6. Jolene
8. Shake Shake Mama
I can't remember the last time Dylan sounded like he was having as much fun with a song as he does on Shake Shake Mama.
