That looks seriously kick ass. One of the better festival line ups I've ever seen.

I thought Girl Talk was just a bunch of samples put together in "song" form? How do you translate that to a concert environment?

You could say the same thing about any electronic act, and yet Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers, Justice etc are some of the best live acts around.

He sets up his computer and does it live. I've heard his shows are fun and he can get kinda crazy. I have a bootleg of one of his live shows where he comes out to a cheering audience, walks up to the mic and tells them that he hasn't had time to do his push ups and that he'll be back in 3 minutes. 3 minutes later he comes back out and starts the dance party.

I wish they'd trade rosters with Coachella. Bonnaroo is driving distance from me (about 150 miles) but nothing really excites me with this roster while Coachella has about seven groups I'd drive 150 miles to see in one place.

totally agree...coachella has the superior line up IMO...I'd be bored silly at this festival (save for a few select artists...)

For me the only thing Coachella has this year that Bonnaroo doesn't is Fleet Foxes.

I do like Bruce and NIN but those two always come around here. It seems like most of the Bonnaroo headliners are groups that people thought they were so cool for listening to back when I was in high school (and I graduated a decade ago).

Re: Bonnaroo 2009 (6/11-6-14)

Headliners by Year

Bonnaroo
2002 - Widespread Panic (x2), Trey Anastastio
2003 - Widespread Panic, The Dead, Neil Young
2004 - Trey Anastasio, Dave Mathews & Friends, The Dead
2005 - Widespread Panic, Dave Mathews Band, Trey Anastasio
2006 - Radiohead, Phil Lesh & Friends, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
2007 - The Police, Tool, Widespread Panic
2008 - Metallica, Pearl Jam, Widespread Panic
2009 - Bruce Springsteen, Phish, don't know who is headlining the other night yet

Coachella
2002 - Bjork, Oasis
2003 - Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers
2004 - Radiohead, The Cure
2005 - Coldplay, Nine Inch Nails
2006 - Daft Punk, Depeche Mode, Tool
2007 - Bjork, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine
2008 - Jack Johnson, Prince, Roger Waters
2009 - Paul McCartney, The Killers, The Cure

Besides their jam roots, I don't know if you can say Bonnaroo has more headliners that were popular 10+ years ago. Starting in 2006, Bonnaroo has switched over to the 2 mainstream acts, 1 jamband format for the headliners. Both festivals have great line-ups year after year, but Bonnaroo is the one I always pay attention to since it's 1,300 miles away, unlike Coachella which is 2,600 miles away.

Radiohead (who played Coach anyways), Tom Petty and The Police (who played my city not even two months after Bonnaroo) are the only bands I'd cross the street for. Whereas there are no less than 11 on that Coachella list I'd travel to see live. I don't care for "jam bands" at all.

What I meant was that for me the only act Coachella has that I would want to see that isn't at Bonnaroo is Fleet Foxes.

As far as headliners being dated, McCartney, Morrissey and The Cure at Coachella isn't exactly cutting edge.

well, you must realize my frustration. Bonnaroo is within 100 miles of me, Coachella is 3000 miles away. So in a way, it does suck that Coachella gets all these acts I love while Bonnaroo gets groups like Phish and Beastie Boys (both of which remind me of people in high school who thought they were so cool just for saying they loved them and putting their logos on their notebooks, etc..) that I wouldn't even watch for free if they came to my house and played for me specifically.

If both were equal distance from me, I wouldn't mind so much, but it seems frustrating that California gets all these groups I love while Nashville gets a ton of groups I am indifferent to and the two acts I'd want to see (Springsteen and NIN) play here frequently enough on their own that it'd be a waste of money and time to travel to see them with a bunch of other acts.

Well I'm in Oregon and would love to see Phish and the Beasties again so I say we swap houses and jobs for April-June!

The only people I know who like Springsteen and NIN are people who thought they were so cool in high school just for saying they liked those bands.

See how stupid that sounds?

Those other bands should feel honored to share the bill with Wilco.

Seriously, Wilco is the best American band around at this point. I'd make sure to check out the Elvis Costello, The Decemberists, Jenny Lewis and Robyn Hitchcock shows as well. Oh and Okkervil River.

Springsteen was NOT "cool" when I was in high school. It was the mid-90's and Springsteen represented the 1980's to a lot of people so people wouldn't admit to liking him then if their life depended on it. I do remember people in high school who loved Phish but if you asked them what their favorite song was, couldn't tell you because Phish just looked cool to put on their notebook alongside their Rage Against The Machine and Wu-Tang logos.

I just hate that Coachella is 3000 miles away from me and is loaded with acts that appeal to me (is Bonnaroo Europhobic?), whereas Bonnaroo is nothing but music that stoners and jocks seemed to love when I was in high school, and I was neither. If Coachella was 100 miles from me and Bonnaroo was 3000 miles away, I never would've made a comment.

Phish had 1 million different people request tickets for 8 summer shows last week. I'm pretty sure those people know the song names.

I had a friend who saw the Grateful Dead four times in concert in junior high and yet the only song titles he could name you were Truckin' and Touch Of Grey. He admitted he wasn't even a big Deadhead, he just went because it made him look cool saying he saw them, and then especially after Jerry died he was all taking it as a badge of honor that he got to see them. But yet, he thought their music sucked and said so many times.

I'm sorry if I offended Phish fans, but why can't groups >>>I

WTF are you talking about? Just because you don't like these bands doesn't mean their fans can be narrowly defined as the douches you went to high school with. Shit, we were listening to Junta and Lawn Boy when your jock friends were in elementary school.

There are lots of good bands performing at this festival. I wish I could go.
