Is anybody listening to these guys? The single happended to be the iTunes weekly download a few weeks back.

I'd like to buy the cd, but it doesn't look like it's out stateside yet. There is a 2-disc set coming out soon, maybe that will be worth $30.

Another indie band.....

Not worth it. No stage-presence, and they portray everything a bunch of wannebe's should act and look like.

It's an ok album, not much replay value.

Pick up Bloc Party's "Intimacy" or Kaiser Chief's "Off With Their Heads" instead...both brilliant albums. Trust me.

I 'discovered' them when Coverville played their cover of "Be My Baby"... I found it to be an incredible cover. Unfortunately it's not on the album, so I haven't bothered getting it (I did get the free download from iTunes...). I've been meaning to check out the album more closely, but haven't had the time.

They're a decent arena rock band a la British Sea Power with the epic guitar sound and impassioned anthems that you can sing along with if you can understand what the hell the singer is mumbling.

Really, it's nothing that the Skids/Big Country didn't do a thousand times better decades ago, but still worth a listen.

I listen to it about five times in a row when it came out. It's sort of like Fruit Stripe gum, tastes good for a very short time.

I like em, they kinda remind me of Jesus and Mary Chain.
They are far from an indie band though as previously mentioned by the member who could give a shit...they are on Columbia.

Their drummer plays standing up also.

yeah, your right... after reading that most UK music press were gushing over the album, I gave it a buy... nah.... it didn't wow in the slightest.

how very true... take a few singing lessons and record another (better) second album and I might (might) think otherwise.

Very boring band IMO. The music feels forced, like they are trying really hard to be that typical English indie act that Pitchfork & NME so often love.

Saw these guys earlier this week in Boston. I have to say, I was fairly unimpressed.

They came out strong, and I really liked their sound. But I knew I was in trouble when they started their second song, and I really thought it was a reprise of the first song. That trend continued for most of the night - if you saw them for a single song on an awards show or on TV, you'd be hooked. But even within the short 50-minute set, I was quickly bored.

Oddly enough, they were overshadowed by the opening act, Ida Maria, who was fantastic! Have to start a new topic for her...

I saw them in Atlanta and thought pretty much the same thing. The sounded good, but their lighting was the worst that I've ever seen at a concert, and their songs tended to blend too much. Ida Maria was fantastic.

Sums the album up pretty well. I bought it a few months ago, listened to it 4 or 5 times. Haven't listened since, and "Geraldine" is the only song that I have even the slightest rememberance of.

nice guitars, annoying singing voice.

DJ on Sirius also said he was very disappointed. He said he had been really looking forward to it, but was well let down.

And I can't stand Ida Maria.

I'm really digging this album, and all of you who say it has no replay value can bite me.

To me, Glasvegas sounds like "What if early U2 decided to form a Jesus and Mary Chain cover band with Phil Spector producing." Obviously, they're not in U2's league, but the influence is definitely there. Easily in my Top 10 for 2008 (even though I didn't discover it until 2009).

and claim that James Allan can't sing is beyond me. Now, I will grant you that he doesn't have (or hasn't demonstrated, anyway) a multi-octave range, but he can certainly carry a tune and has a dynamic enough range for rock music.

I find a couple of their tunes quite good.

I'll side with you on this one. I'm still enjoying it even after repeated spins . . . and his singing is just fine.

I was underwhelmed by this album initially but after playing "Geraldine" once on Rock Band I'm sort of addicted to the song.

I think part of the issue is that the lead singers accent comes through most of the time. I'd say it gets in the way and creates a muffle at times, but in part I think that's what gives them a unique sound.
