Isaac Hayes Dead At 65
Just coming through the wires. Here's from TMZ:
Musician Isaac Hayes -- who wrote the theme song for "Shaft" -- died early this morning in a Memphis hospital. According to WMC, a Shelby County sheriff's deputy responded to call from Hayes' wife after she found him on the floor near a treadmill inside their home. Hayes was taken to Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, and was pronounced dead at 2:08 AM. |
No more Chef. :(
Scientology will do that shit to you. |
Chef's dead.
Wow. |
God Damn
:( |
Crap, that sucks, Chef is my favorite in SouthPark :(
|
Just saw it as breaking news.
|
What a depressing fucking weekend.
|
Damnit to hell. Its been a rough weekend for black people. First the Asians are beating them at the Olympics. That guy getting his head crushed in Pineapple Express. Then adding to that the loss of two great talents Bernie Mac and now Isaac Hayes. Both died way too young.
Im the biggest South Park fan in the world and he will always be Chef in my mind. I loved listening to the Chef Aid soundtrack all the time when i was in my teens. ("Say everybody have you seen by balls they're big and salty and brown.....") . I know he kinda went a bit crazy in his final years leaving the show cause of Scientology issues or whatever but he was a a great part of that show. You gotta give it up for the man who did the theme from Shaft and the theme from Truck Turner (not to mention the film Truck Turner as well). RIP man. |

Isaac Hayes was a guest star on the Bernie Mac show a few years ago, and they both die within 24 hours of each other at relatively young ages...I smell a conspiracy.
|
Wow...R.I.P. :(
|
"Haven't you ever heard of the Emancipation Proclamation?"
"I don't listen to hip-hop." :D Jesus, this is a horrible, horrible year for dead celebrities. Heath Ledger, Roy Scheider, Charlton Heston, George Carlin, Sydney Pollack, Bernie Mac, Stan Winston, the rumors about Paul Newman...this is really sad. A great musician, and loved him of course as Chef on South Park, the Duke in Escape from New York, and in Hustle & Flow. RIP. |
Wow. RIP.
My last fond memory of Hayes was his "Conan" version of "Shaft". |
|
Wow, that's sad, especially just after Bernie Mac.
The night is right for love... with Meredith Baxter Birney. |
RIP Isaac. Thanks for the memories.

I feel like listening to "Chocolate Salty Balls"
While I do think the character ran out of steam by the time they killed him (I wonder if Comedy Central will withdraw said episode from reruns now, like they did the Christopher Reeve episode), he was a vital part of South Park's early years and seemed like a good guy |
Isaac was great. What a bummer. I loved his Sam and Dave songs with David Porter, and his soundtrack work on "Shaft." He was a pretty good singer and performer, too, and funny as Chef. RIP, Black Moses.

18 posts in an Issac Hayes thread in the music forum and everyone's talking about his South Park character? It's somewhat sad that the man responsible for one of the greatest soul/funk albums of all time, Hot Buttered Soul, and a contributor to countless Stax classics, is best remembered for a song about chocolate balls.

The Duke
RIP :( |

Part from http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/obit_isaac_hayes "he had recently finished work on a movie called "Soul Men" in which he played himself, starring Samuel Jackson and Bernie Mac, who died on Saturday." RIP Issac. |
If I was Sam Jackson I'd be heading to the nearest bunker.

How many people posting in this thread were alive during the Stax years or when Hot Buttered Soul came out? How many were alive when South Park came out? |
