Re: Here's a gargantuan Album by Album thread: KISS

Anyway, I was finally able to find and listen to Eddie Trunk's 3-hour KISSmas special from last month, featuring Ace in studio. It was a pretty decent special, although LOADED with commercials (I stopped listening to terrestrial radio long ago) and Ace, as usual, is a pretty bored interviewee (his guitarist had PLENTY more to say).

Still I love Eddie's show, and he DEFINITELY went beyond the "Greatest Hits" to play some deep cuts. I mean, holy crap, he actually played "Kissin' Time", 2 cuts from "The Elder", and even "Nowhere to Run" from KILLERS.

An interesting, sometimes funny quick album by album guide a friend sent me. I don't agree with some of the opinions and there are a couple of mistakes, but still an interesting read for KISS fans.

No kidding. What a ridiculous statement. The actual quotes are: "Skip all three. They’re crap." "Side note: beware of a collection called The Originals, featuring the first three crummy albums packaged together..."

As Hokeyboy noted above, we gave Sonic Boom it's own thread.

But if it's a review you want, then it's a review you'll get...

http://www.vistarecords.proboards.co...play&thread=74

That's a pretty thorough review (I wrote it when the album came out).

Speaking of Kiss, I just picked up tickets to see a tribute band (Kiss Army), with a Journey cover band opening.

http://www.agr.state.il.us/isf/gstand/kissarmy.html

I'll be taking the kids to this one, should be a good time. And it was cheap, only $5 per ticket.

I got lawn seats to see KISS again this year for $10 a piece. I was kind of shocked that they could play their show in a covered amphitheater...wouldn't that be a fire hazard? Plus they cant do the flying spots I don't think...

I saw them multi times at covered amphitheaters on the 2004 tour and they used all of the usual bombs & fire... and gene flew to the top of the lighting rig & paul flew out to a stage near the sound & lighting control booth...

so, yes - expect the full production

Saw 'em at a shed Thursday night. They didn't skimp on anything. Played over two hours too.

The obscure track they pulled out of for this tour is

Spoiler:
Crazy Nights

And they're also doing

Spoiler:
An acoustic version of Beth with Eric Singer on vocals

Re: Here's a gargantuan Album by Album thread: KISS

I went last night to the Cincinnati show. They didn't disappoint, great show. New stage is sweet.

Set List:
Spoiler:

Modern Day Delilah
Cold Gin
Let ME Go Rock n Roll
Firehouse
Say Yeah
Deuce
Crazy Crazy Nights
Calling Dr Love
Shock Me (why do they still do this, ugh!)
I'm An Animal
100,000 Years
I Love It Loud
Black Diamond
Detroit Rock City

Encore:
Beth (all playing/singing)
Lick It Up (Won't Get Fooled Again thrown in)
Shout It Out Loud
I Was Made For Lovin' You (Paul flies out to audience)
God Gave Rock and Roll To You
Rock and Roll All Nite

(Somewhere in there Paul did a good bit of a Led Zeppelin song)

Oddly missing from this tour is:
Spoiler:
God of Thunder

Eric and Tommy seem to really be enjoying themselves more this time around.

Lemmy there is a well produced DVD of the 'Nurburgring' show from June out there in the internets if you can find it.

Yeah, looks like there are a few YouTube vids of it out there from their Europe tour if you want a taste (the couple I just checked out sound pretty bad, though).

Re: Here's a gargantuan Album by Album thread: KISS

I've got a question about the setlist.
Spoiler:
A&E just ran a KISSteria special, when the guys were in Australia. Eric pleaded with Gene to let him sing Beth. Gene said it was Peter's song and no one else would sing it. So how come Eric's singing it now?

Because...
Spoiler:
At least half the stuff in KISSteria was made up. It was scripted like EXposed was. They didn't do the tour on a week's notice, Eric didn't really disappear, they didn't really ship the wrong painting by accident, etc.

Why is Eric singing, "Beth," now? Because Paul & Gene thought it might go over well live, and it has. I think they're over the whole, "Shock Me," is Ace's song - only to be played and sung by Ace, and, "Beth," is Peter's song - only to be sung by Peter, thing.
