Oasis - Dig Out Your Soul

As previously announced, the band are set to return later this year with their new album, released independently by their own label Big Brother Recordings. There is a worldwide release date of October 6*.

‘Dig Out Your Soul’ was produced by Dave Sardy who worked with the band on 2005’s, ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’. It was recorded at Abbey Road and mixed in Los Angeles. All four band members once again contribute tracks.

The tracklisting for ‘Dig Out Your Soul’:

Bag It Up
The Turning
Waiting For The Rapture
The Shock Of The Lightning
I’m Outta Time
(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady
Falling Down
To Be Where There’s Life
Ain’t Got Nothin’
The Nature of Reality
Soldier On

The first single, 'The Shock Of The Lightning' is released on September 29th.

The album sleeve for ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ can be seen for the first time by clicking HERE. It features an original piece of art by London-based designer, Julian House.

There will be a lot more exciting news in the forthcoming weeks so keep checking back to Oasisinet..

* October 7 USA & Canada

I thought their last record was great (although I'm a pretty big Oasis fan) so I'm really looking forward to this one!

Great news! Very curious how the songwriting credits will work out this time. I think the "everybody writes songs" method has been working surprisingly well. Too bad "Lord Don't Slow Me Down" isn't on there. Great song.

Supposedly the writing breaks down like this:

All songs by Noel Gallagher except where noted

1. "Bag It Up" - 5.12
2. "The Turning" (Andy Bell) - 4.32
3. "Waiting For the Rapture" - 4.57
4. "The Shock of the Lightning" - 4.24
5. "I'm Outta Time" (Liam Gallagher) - 5.20
6. "Get Off Your High Horse (Lady)" (Gem Archer) - 5.07
7. "Falling Down" - 4.18
8. "To Be Where There is Life" - 5.35
9. "Ain't Got Nothin" (Liam Gallagher) - 3.32
10. "The Nature of Reality" - 4.48
11. "Soldier On" (Liam Gallagher) - 5.50

I'm really excited for this album. The songs are supposed to have more of a groove and a driving sound than the traditional song structure.

There's also a Chemical Brothers remix of "Falling Down" available on the internet (youtube).

I completely agree (and I am a big fan as well). This is easily my most anticipated album of the year.

Does anyone know about these Oasis demos floating about:
"I Wanna Live A Dream (In My Record Machine)"
"Nothin' On Me"
"Stop The Clocks"
"Lord Don't Slow Me Down (Liam Vocal)"

I know Stop the Clocks shares the title with their greatest hits so it must be a few years old. Were these demos for the new album? I wonder if some of these will show up as b-sides. They're all pretty solid, especially "Stop the Clocks".

Re: The song Stop the Clocks:

According to Wikipedia, so take that what it's worth:
"There has been speculation that it may be included on the album as a hidden track or even under a different title."

That would be awesome if the song were tagged on the end of the new album as a hidden track. Also, I thought I read somewhere that there would likely be a deluxe edition or different editions of the album. So, I wouldn't be surprised if they try and pimp one of the versions with that song and some of the other b-sides, etc. that have not been officially released yet. I guess we'll find out.

I kind of like that some of their best songs are B-sides a la The Smiths.

I am psyched! I just scored 3rd row tickets to their Montreal show on September 5! I was shocked that I didn't have to pay much more than face value for them. There's another 3rd row pair on ebay that is ending tomorrow if anyone is interested. (I apologize if this is frowned upon. I swear it's not my auction, just trying to help any fellow fans out.)

I heard "The Shock of the Lightning" the other day too. It's decent, sounds like good ol' oasis to me! "Falling Down" is an excellent Noel tune also. I bet that the album will be a great follow up to "Don't Believe the Truth."

So I've heard the entire album at this point and it's pretty good. There's a couple of tracks where Liam sounds like he's actually singing instead of "sneering." I think it's because he's singing lower and not trying to sound so tough. The album sounds a little different than the typical oasis-formula, although there's a few of those on there too.

Liam's song "I'm Outta Time" is actually really good. I could definitely see it being the second or third single. It's a slower more ballady one with a catchy melody. He's come a long way with his songwriting since "Little James" from Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.

What are other people's takes on the album?

I'm really enjoying it. Lots of great tracks on here - especially the singles, Waiting For The Rapture and I can't stop listening to Bag It Up... something about that song just kicks complete ass, a great way to start the record. I really wish I had the cash lying around to buy that giant boxset!

I don't know what reviewers were expecting but lots of the reviews have been unfairly negative IMO.

They havent released anything worthwhile since morning glory and I think this new album might be there best or 2nd best behind morning glory. Tracks 5 and 8 are my favorites, but I like the whole flow of the album from beginning to end. Just when you get tired of Liam's voice a Noel song comes on and vice versa. Each song sounds different, you can feel a little beatles inspiration in a few of the songs.

For me this album is like every other since Morning Glory. 2 or 3 really standout songs and then a bunch of unmemorable stuff. Not crap, just nothing particularly interesting.

the album is good, but not jaw-dropping amazing. I love about 1/3 of it and the rest are "ok" songs but I wouldn't listen to it outside of the context of the album.

Still, nice to see the guys have a level of US success they haven't seen since Be Here Now. A top 5 debut and top 100 single is quite impressive since they've had neither in over a decade.

Re: Oasis - Dig Out Your Soul

My initial opinion of this album was way off. I have recently been giving it another chance, and I now think it is my favorite since What's The Story. Shock Of The Lightning may be their best song since stuff from the first couple of albums.

That is how I feel about the album. A few very good songs, surrounded by solid, but un-noteworthy material. It is not as good as their prior album, but still a solid listen.
