The Great Rock Discography
Forgive me if this was posted here already but I did this on RateYourMusic.com and it was work, but I had fun doing it.

Here's my list (remember it's favorite artists and songs, not best ):
I did the best I could without destroying my entire existence. I hate you all for doing this to me, and myself for being the lunatic that I am...
Some random thoughts on this mess:
- I can't say this list is final or even close to it.
- It is what it is for this particular week of my life. I'll probably look at it next week and wonder what in the world I was thinking. Maybe sooner...
- In doing this I was surprised to find some artists I thought I liked more than I actually do and vice-versa.
- I tried to limit this to artists whose bodies of work I enjoy moreso than other artists, and in doing so I left off alot of my favorite songs just because they happen to be done by artists whose other work doesn't thrill me as much as the 50 listed.

The order got screwy for me on the 20 Bonus tracks (which I took as favorite songs from my next 20 favorite artists as opposed to just my favorite 20 tracks not already listed), but for the most part those are my favorite artists.
In doing the list I found out alot about who my favorites were. Some artists I thought would've been ranked higher wound up to be middle of the pack for me and vice versa. It was tough, but fun.

This list attempts to pay homage to The King of Discography Research: Martin C. Strong. His tireless work has given us 7 editions of The Great Rock Discography (Foreword by John Peel) as well as a couple editions each of The Great Psychedelic; Metal & Alternative / Indie Discographies.
Who cares if he relies a little too heavily on the word "Great" in his titles? This guy has put together some of the most meticulously researched music reference books in existence. The only fault you can find with any of his work is obsolescence

The guidelines: Simple to understand - arduous to complete. Select:
10 Best Tracks From Fave Artists #1-10

3 Best Tracks From Fave Artists #21-30
20 Bonus Tracks From Other Artists
Grand total: 200 tracks.

When I originally did mine on RYM I had to make an outline in a notebook before posting. My original outline was no where near my final product - which still could use some tweaking...

DVD Talk Special Edition
This took a long time, and after completion, realized that I forgot a lot, and that the list would definitely change depending on my mood.
The format is tough, because one of my favorite bands is Spiritualized; I have all of their albums and they're constantly in my CD player, but I'll be damned if I could name more than a few songs. Same with The Jesus and Mary Chain.
I love the Stone Roses and My Bloody Valentine, but for the both, I'd really be giving you the tracklisting from one album.
Even with the 200 slots for songs, the format is very limiting. Makes me realize that I could go thousands of songs deep.

The format is tough, because one of my favorite bands is Spiritualized; I have all of their albums and they're constantly in my CD player, but I'll be damned if I could name more than a few songs. Same with The Jesus and Mary Chain.
I love the Stone Roses and My Bloody Valentine, but for the both, I'd really be giving you the tracklisting from one album.
Even with the 200 slots for songs, the format is very limiting. Makes me realize that I could go thousands of songs deep.
