Got this e-mail the other day as well.

There are plenty of thing I've been wanting from The End for a while now. Sadly, an 11% off sale is about one-fifth what it needs to be for my current money situation to allow me to get anything. Here's to hoping that the next time they have an ~11-15% off sale I'll have some dough.

Though I am still curious, so if anybody does takes advantage, post your hauls in here.

Most of what I'd want from The End is either out of stock, not carried, or so expensive that the sale only brings the price down to about what you can find them for in stores.

The End is just not what it used to be.

I wish CM took Paypal.

Does The End still have that ridiculously fast shipping?

I usually receive what I order within a week. Of course, its been much faster for me since they moved to the east coast.

Well, not as fast. Back in March I think it was they understandably altered their shipping prices and options to reflect the spike in gas and postage prices. They still have a free option, though it's Media Mail as opposed to First Class like it used to be. I've made a few orders from them since the change, and there is a noticeable difference. As opposed to the normal 2 or 3 days, it's now 5-8 days for me (Florida).

Though I kind of contest that they've made any sort of drastic changes that make them "not what they used to be." The rise in popularity for both bands and the record label/store in general make it understandable for certain items to be out of stock somewhat often. Though I see re-stocks very quickly, especially considering that many of their items do in fact have to come from overseas. And sure, they don't always have the greatest prices on everything metal, but can you really say that they ever actually did? I'm of the opinion that there's no such thing as a "one-stop shop" for all your music needs, even in one particular genre. It's best to be store and price savvy, and build up an arsenal of reliable and dependable resources so that you are able to always get what you want at the best price. Amazon, CD Baby and artists' and labels' websites, in addition to The End, are probably some of the best resources you could have. So embrace them all, but even then, don't totally ignore other outlets.

Yes. I remember a time when you would be hard pressed to find any single CD for over $13.50 on their site. Most were $11.50-$12.50

You can navigate cheaper stuff if you browse by their 'exclusive labels':

If you're into black metal, most Immortal CDs (Osmose Prod) and Bathory CDs (Black Mark) are around $12. Moonfog has bands like Satyricon & Darkthrone.

Not a fan of black metal. The only thing I ever liked about Immortal were the Photoshopped pictures floating around the web.

thanks for the heads up, OP
There are some really sweet deals on back catalog items that have been on the list for awhile at cmdistro.

Yeah, some of their older releases of long-time Century Media bands (Tiamat, Rotting Christ, Samael, Strapping Young Lad come to mind...just search through the bands that appear on the older Identity compilations) were already priced down to $8, and this sale has them down to $6.80! Tiamat's Wildhoney and SYL's City are masterpieces, imo.

Darksymphonies.com is having a 5 for $35 or 10 for $60 sale on all titles (free shipping on US orders) until the 6th. The downside is their catalog is thin. They do have, as an exclusive, maudlin of the Well's first album, remastered with bonus tracks.
