Easy songs to learn on guitar?

Finally starting to pick up and work with my LP after one helluva a semester...can anyone recommend some nice and easy stuff that I can play pretty much right away (barring Smoke on the Water)?

I was looking at the tab for American Idiot and the same chords played in different order make up a good chunk of the entire album.

yeah the same 3 chords. I like their music for the most part, but they have very simple arrangements that repeat throughout.

Actually it's pretty impressive how they made those same three chords sound so diverse and varied throughout a whole album. The second guitarist adding fills helped a lot. Armstrong admits he's a pretty limited guitarist.

You wanna impress the hell out of people? Learn Boston's "More Than A Feeling"... it was the first rock song I learned on guitar 25 (eesh) years ago. It's very simple, a basic D (with sustains), C-B-G and back up again. Easy fingerpicking and it sounds great (and also sounds much trickier to play than it actually is). The chorus is pretty easy as well. Highly recommended as a first song.

And "American Idiot" has 4 chords in it. But its easy as hell, even the "solo".

"Every Rose Has Its Thorn" by Poison. C-G-D, plus a little E. Simple as pie.

Slayer and Metallica. They have a wealth of material to choose from, and the majority of their stuff is easy to learn and a helluva lot of fun to play. Great for working on your chops.
