I'm specifically referring to post-Syd. Around the time of Meddle/Obscured by Clouds, Floyd found their spacey, bluesy distinct sound, IMO.

I started listening to them in 68/69 and during the 69 states tour which was recorded as ya yas, that was one of the introductions from Jagger.

As for the pistols, they came from nowhere(malcom mclaren is about as close to that as possible), some of them never played an instrument, they fought with everybody, hated their audience, got thrown off tv, arrested on the thames for the queens jubilee, made 1 great album, toured the states not in the cities but in small southern towns in redneck bars with the expected result, and destroyed themselves at the end of the tour. Some dead, some just pissed. To me that was the personification of a band. Just my opinion.

I would say as far as an overall sound.

Tool
Queens of the Stone Age
White Stripes
Eagles of Death Metal

thats a few that instantly came to mind, where you can hear just the first part of most of the songs and say, "Hey thats xxxx"

And yes, EODM are not huge or anything but they do have a very distinctive sound if you know the sound at all.

I'd say that Weezer would fit on that list.

I was going by the slap bass that fieldy does is what makes them stand out imo. As soon as you hear it, I can instantly tell its them
