She & Him: Volume One
Heard this on NPR today. She & Him is actress Zooey Deschanel and musician M. Ward. I was a little apprehensive of another actress-turned-singer, but the whole thing has a groovy retro texture, mixing 60s pop and country overtones.
Not groundbreaking stuff, but it really sounded nice.

Yeah I have been listening to this album a lot. There are some clunkers on it, but when they get it right... wow. I was really impressed that Zooey had this much talent in her. I've been a fan of her films for a long time, but I really did not expect much out of this project.

It's funny, I used to work in a record store in Portland and they both came in to pick some stuff up. At the time I just figured they were dating, who knew that their relationship was strictly "professional".
Anyway I got to ring up Zooey Deschanel, and I wish I could remember what she bought but honestly her eyes were so mesmerizing that I am amazed I could even operate the cash register!

Diggin' the album a lot, makes for a great back to back play with Destroyer's new album that came out on the same day.
Absolutely love the opening track, definitely one of my my 2 or 3 favorite songs of the year so far & like already said, nothing ground breaking, but a very charming feel-good album. If you didn't already have a crush on Zoey, it's impossible not to after the album.
Really looking foward to her song with Jenny Lewis on Jenny's new solo album later in the year.

Well, late again to another thread... After seeing Yes Man I was reminded that Zooey was supposed to release an album, so I looked it up and so she had! I got it last night and listened on the way to work this morning (Only $5 amazon download btw). The first track had me questioning my purchase, but after that one track, I really liked the rest of the album.

I really like the album. I might disagree with Paste in picking it "Album Of The Year" (my choice would be My Morning Jacket), but I think it's up there and I'm glad they went out on a limb to praise this work; otherwise I (and I assume many others) might have totally missed it.

I also looked into this album after seeing Yes Man. I had heard her sing somewhere before and so I looked up her name on allmusic.com and it linked me over to She & Him. A very good album, I like it a lot.
