Yep, just like I said, nothing new under the sun. I imagine you could do that with quite a few songs if you really wanted too.

Definitely that was the whole bit they were doing. They also mentioned some other famous ones like Surfin USA being a direct rip off of a Chuck Berry song, Ghostbusters being a rip off of I want a New drug by Hewey Lewis, etc. The other song doesn't sound anywhere near as close to me as Satriani's song but either way that doesn't mean Coldplay was trying to rip him off or not. Having said that, I think I like Joe's song better but that's solely because I love crazy instrumental guitar songs Both are good however.

The Satriani similarities are pretty wild, actually. However, I'd be more than a little surprised if Chris Martin has even spent more than one second purposefully listening to anyting Satriani barfs out.

Exactly, it's not like Satriani and Coldplay are similar musically that Chris Martin would be very likely to listen to a Joe Satriani CD.

So... you're saying artists only ever listen to other artists that are similar to them? How do you know that Scott Ian isn't a huge fan of Patsy Cline? Or that Shania Twain doesn't listen to the Pharcyde every now and then? I think that's just a patently ridiculous notion, without a doubt. People, especially creative people, listen to ALL TYPES of music and like to experience a wide range of art, be it film, music, paintings, dance or whatever. Puh-lease.

Satriani is approximately 6,043,435 times more talented and creative a musician than any member of Coldplay. To suggest the Satriani 'barfs' out music is just silly and only really suggests that you're not very familiar with Joe's work. I'm not some monster fan of chops guitarists but when ranking musicians by raw talent and songwriting ability, Satriani far outranks Coldplay. I dare say even Coldplay would admit that. How the hell do you know what Chris Martin listens to? He might be jamming out to Eric Johnson right now for all you know. lmfao.

I'm not suggesting for one second that Chris Martin doesn't listen to other styles of music. I listen to a huge variety of music. Enough to know that Satriani is snoozesville (surely a claim that many lay at Coldplay's feet as well). I don't know what Chris listens to, but if I were to make an educated guess by the four albums they've released, I'd say Satriani is far, far off the radar. I'll stand corrected if someone can post a picture of the carpet cleaning bill after the vomit

Dude relax, me matter of factly stating something on a message board doesn't mean I think it's completely impossible for me to be incorrect.

Second, why are you implying that I don't like Joe Satriani and think he doesn't have talent? I'm a fan of his, his guitar work (along with as you mentioned Eric Johnson and also Steve Vai) is incredible. I wish I could ever come close to his level of guitar skill(as i'm only slightly better than terrible right now)

If anything I expected people to think I was attacking Coldplay (which i also wasn't) but trust me I was definitely not attacking Satriani.

I'm liking the CD a lot but A Rush of Blood to the Head is still by far the best.

Yeah I think it's going to be really tough for them to top A Rush of Blood to the Head. I'm not a huge fan of the entire album but there are at least 7 or 8 incredible songs on that album if not more.

I downloaded all the albums from Amazon this week 9$1.99 sale!) but I missed this one!!
After complaining earlier in this thread that coldplay were boring and melody-less. I've listened to them alot this past week and they're def growing on me. They have alot of great songs on the 3 albums I have and will prob download 'a rush of blood to the head'

Saw them at MSG last night. Pretty good show but it had some quirks and kinks that needed to be worked out. Which wasn't a problem, as the concert was free.

"Viva La Vida" and "Violet Hill" sound amazing live.

My camera can only record 3:00 of video at a time, so that's most of "Yellow" but it does cut off at the end.

Also, they did play "Reign of Love" and "Lovers in Japan" as separate songs.

Is that a really small B Stage, or are they all in the crowd?

Still debating if I want to pony up the cash to go see them in concert when they swing by in a few months. I'm tempted, but everything was bought up and the minimum is ~$100 ea. + ticket charges of $17 ea. (grrrr).

EDIT: Oh my gosh. If people are acting like this the entire time then I'm keeping my money and putting a CD in the player.

It's exactly the same as the CD, only bigger.

Side A goes up Lovers in Japan/Reign of Love.
Oh, and that's the free 45 that came with NME.

Clarification for bub and for Superman:

As in their last song I saw them sing, Chris & Co. go off to the back and do a song among the crowd. There is no B stage, they are simply standing there with wireless mics, etc. The singing isn't drowned out but for "Yellow" they did quiet down a bit compared to the crowd. Chamberlain (the drummer) also did a small cover song of what sounded like a traditional or folk song. His singing is actually pretty good. I wouldn't be surprised to see him on a song or B-side by the time the next album comes around.

There was a small B-stage off the main stage they used for a song or two.

All in all a great concert but no band is worth seeing for $100 from nosebleed seats. I'd rather see them every other tour, pay more, and see them up close. As I said, no complaints about the MSG show since it was free. When I saw them before this I think I paid about $300-400 for a pair of tickets and ended up on the 8th row or so.

That's a good point. I haven't been to see them before, so some extra might not hurt. However, the prices for the tickets are a wide range. I'm wondering if they will settle or go down at all. There is still a month+ until the show (it was originally supposed to be in a few weeks). Another part of the problem is that I haven't been to the venue but 1 or 2 times, and it's been a while. I'm not sure what the different seats would be like for the price. =/

Depends on the venue. This was my first time at MSG and I have to say I was impressed. I only had about 4 or 5 rows of people behind me and I didn't feel like I was too far away.

The time I saw them at the 9:30 Club remains one of my favorite concert experiences.
