Sevendust - Chapter VII: Hope & Sorrow - 4/1/08

Not much Sevendust talk on here.
Anyone else looking forward to their 7th studio album due out in April?

I used to be a big Sevendust fan, but I found Next and Alpha to be so similar and just average, that I didn't even realize they had another album coming out so soon. I'll probably buy it anyhow...hopefully it'll be good.

Looking forward to picking this up along with The Sword's new album on 4/1. Two of my favorite bands with new albums coming out on the same day

If that alone, constitutes a pass on your behalf, then that argument is weak. To each his own, I guess.

I hope there is a little more variety on this one and it looks like there will be. I like a few acoustic songs like on Animosity or Seasons instead of just hard songs interjected with Morgan screaming his head off.

I'd love another album similar to Seasons.

Seems like original guitarist, Clint Lowery, is rejoining the band and replacing Sonny Mayo.

After having listened the album for the past few days, I'm really loving it. If you're a fan of their work on Animosity and Seasons, you're definitely going to enjoy this album. It's much more in the vein of those two than of Next and Alpha. They've still got some great heavy riffs and a fair amount of screaming here and there, but there's a lot more melody to this record.

I can't wait to pick it up Tuesday at Best Buy. I'm really curious to hear the two exclusive tracks.

And it's great news to hear that Clint is coming back. While there were several songs that I enjoyed from the past two records, overall it really felt like there was something missing.

I'm glad to see that Clint is coming back as well. The last two albums were pretty weak compared to most of their earlier stuff.

I'm a dust lifer and wicked pumped for this release as well as the news about Clint rejoining. I loved Alpha, but Next was pretty weak. They won't ever be able to top Home which is certainly my favorite for sure. I will be going to see them at Hampton Beach on the 19th, it will be my 10th show. Look forward to chatting with Clint after, its been awhile.

My favorites from top to bottom

Home
Animosity
Sevendust
Seasons
Alpha
Next
**I love south side double wide as well, their acoustic performances are top notch.

Had no idea DVDtalk would have any 7D fans, right on!!!!

It's not a bad song really. It's similar in style to "Xmas Day" and "Skeleton Song." I'm not a Daughtry fan, and I'd rather not have him on the track, but it does give me just the slightest bit of respect for him. I mean, he's not doing this to gain popularity, so he must be a Sevendust fan. And while it won't make me like him, being a Sevendust fan gives him a few points in my book. Singing on a Sevendust track isn't going to bring him a lot of attention since they're not a big name band (even though they should be). It probably won't, but if anything it could give him some negative publicity since Sevendust is far from American Idol, family-friendly fair. I can just see the reaction that some parents would have when their teeny-bopper wants them to buy this album because Chris Daughtry sings on it.

I just wish that they would have handled these tracks with guest vocals (both the Daughtry song and the song with Miles Kennedy) on this album like "Follow" off of Animosity with Aaron Lewis. At no point was it just Aaron Lewis singing on "Follow." His vocals were more prominant on the second verse, but Lajon was still singing, and for the rest of the song he was singing background stuff. It was awesome. On both of these tracks, the guest singer has an entire verse and chorus to themselves. I'm paying money to hear Lajon sing and Morgan scream (and maybe Clint sing a bit from here on out), not to hear other guys come in and sing anything but in a secondary role for the entire song. But, with that said, both are good songs, particularly the track with Miles Kennedy (who's a much better singer than Daughtry).

Anyone pick this up off iTunes? I'm curious about the bonus track available on there - "Disgust." From what I can tell from the 30 second clip, it sounds awesome. I picked the cd up at Best Buy, and the two bonus tracks there are good (with "Heart in Your Hands" being the better of the two in my opinion), but "Disgust" sounds like it might be even better. I hate all of these tracks being spread out all over the place. I want them all!

My friend wasn't impressed. I really like "Alpha" a lot. I'll pick it up regardless here soon.

Really? I thought Alpha sucked it pretty hard. I like this one quite a bit, however.

While "Alpha" has grown on me since it first came out, I thought that it seemed like they tried way too hard to make it as heavy as they could, and in the process they sacrificed some of what makes their music so great. I think this new album is definitely a return to form, with a good mix of heaviness and melody, and I can't wait to see where they go after this now that Clint is back.
