Let's not forget The Rossington Collins Band. Those two albums were amazing.

wow...

no mention of .38 Special?... i'm surprised...

i saw them live 3 times...

even the surviving members of Skynyrd said they felt the official 'Southern Rock' torch was passed to .38 Special...

Marshall Tucker did some great stuff...

Top 10...

.38 Special - IMO.. Best southern rock band..

Jackyl - Absolutely love this band..she loves my c##k
Molly Hatchet - The first southern rock i was introduced to, love em.
ZZ Top - I'm a fan more of there 80's stuff than there older stuff, loved "Afterburner"
Dangerous Toys - I'm scratching my head on this are they southern rock, if so they get my vote.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Like a couple of there songs, favorite is Simple Man.
Georgia Satellites - Fun band had some big time hits, favorite one was Battleship Chains.
3 Doors Down - Bought ther first two cd's, pretty good.
Charlie Daniels Band - Thought he was Country but oh well i'll vote for Charlie, favorite song next to the obvious one is Juanita.
Corrosion of Conformity - Liked one album by them, Deliverance

Just because you're a rock band from the South doesn't mean that you're a Southern Rock band.

.38 Special vs. Lynyrd Skynyrd is a pretty good match up... I like the Down pick. Nice little dark metal southern rock.

Maybe Edgar Winter?

Southern rock is having a bit of a resurgence these days. The Drive-By Truckers are amazing...one of the best bands in any genre playing today.

Also check out...

the only southern rock I can stand is Black Oak Arkansas and that's mostly because of Tommy Aldridge. Although the tiny package of the singer, as seen in the video below, makes them pretty badass as well.

Here's my best of Southern bands and cd's in no particular order
Blackfoot-Tomcatin, Maurader ( needs to be remasterd )
Lynyrd Skynyrd-Second Helping, Street Survivors
Molly Hatchet- Molly Hatchet-( Still waiting impatiently for this to be remasterd on cd Beatin the Odds also.)
38 Special- Wild Eyed Southern Boys
zz top- (tie) Tres Hombres, Deulego (sp.), Tejas
Outlaws- Outlaws, In the Eye of the Storm, Hurry Sundown
Allman Brothers- Seven Turns, Debut cd
The Four Horsemen- Nobody said it was easy
I'll go with Rossington Collins although I never was able to hear them, I may try to get their cd's to try out because of this thread.
The Johnny Van Zandt Band- Round Two, was a great album before he joined up with Lynyrd Skynyrd

They got about 10 albums out. Not just that one. And they're not all "southern rock" by any means. But great stuff, nonetheless.

Everyone here has great mentions. "Down" is also a great southern band.

I agree. Corrosion of Conformity may not be southern as you have said, but their cd's are worth getting. I have a few of them and they're pretty good.
