The Crystal Method has some of the best music that you can play in the headphones. Great beats and really cool samples. That's the genre I am most into. I do like trance but not as much as I used to.
After this post, I feel more so that my recommendations will be what you like.

Define "Trippy".

I always liked the Vampyros Lesbos cd, 60's trippy.

Funki Porcini is pretty good.

No love for The Orb?
Try UFO.R.B. or even their greatest hits is great.

Future Sound of London has great songs.

No I don't. Tell me about it. I checked out the website briefly.

Trippy to me is something you can listen to in the headphones that does a lot of panning and switching to the left and right tracks.

Well, I was stoned a lot when I was first exposed to those albums, and I definitely get a certain amount of kcabhsalf flashback when I listen to them now, so they're trippy to me.

Some of my suggestions have already shown up (Air, Dj Shadow) but I've really enjoyed Menomena's new record (Friend and Foe) and Justice ("cross") while riding the bus lately.

For something completely different, but trippyier then most things listed in this thread:

Karsh Kale is a recent/modern artist that blends Indian music with some electronica--and also is "trippy" That video reminded me of some of his stuff.

Last.fm lets you listen to a lot of full length tracks (not all, but more and more each day). Their recommendations have been very accurate for me. The kind where "If you like this, then you'll like..."

Karsh Kale and Ravi's daughter, Anoushka Shankar, worked together on the album "Breathing Under Water". It's pretty good, too.

One of my personal favorites. Mad Bomber/The Woods is one of the best electronica tracks I've heard. I love the subtle recording of a campfire in the background. "99%" and "Satyricon" are great as well.

Re: Looking for trippy music to listen to

Since it's been a while i thought I'd recommend a new album that I like which is the PixelJunk Eden soundtrack.

Get it if you like this type of music.

The artist is Baiyon.

Re: Looking for trippy music to listen to

I recently got the "Hallucinogen - In Dub" album--Mixed by Ott, and am adding it as a MUST LISTEN to this thread.

I will check out PixelJunk.

Been listening to Orbital quite a bit and really enjoy their music. Great with headphones.

Re: Looking for trippy music to listen to

I corrected some info about about the Hallucinogen album. It is actually a remix album by Ott (another recommended "trippy" artist from me), and the album is a collection of songs by Hallucinogen (Psy trance) done in a very cool way. Sounds a lot like Shpongle.

GREAT with headphones. Lots of varied beats.
