Metal trivia question: Anthrax's "Make Me Laugh" & Metallica's "One" - Who borrowed?

I know these bands are friends, but does anyone know the story of who came up with the music that's used in both songs? If there is a story.

It's the double bass drum and guitar part right before, and then during, the "Darkness imprisoning me..." part of One. It's used in the intro of Make Me Laugh.

State of Euphoria came out in '88 and And Justice For All in '89.

Any discussion I've had with anyone about this is that Metallica came up with it, but no one can back it up with any proof. I think people just assume it's Metallica since "One" was their breakout song and they are the more popular band.

Just curious if anyone knew.

Maybe they both came up with it independently? There are only so many notes, rhythms, chord progressions, etc.

Anthrax's tempo is a 'lil bit faster but it is the same riff more or less...

Almost all of Speed Metal is based around the open low E (6th) string. Some parts of songs are simply composed of striking the lower open E string in a variety of rhythms. Most songs, though, have power chords integrated into that rhythm. Triplets are usually a good first step as they are ultra quick but add a lot of energy.

I'll give you the main riff of "The Four Horsemen:"

My guess for the similarity is that James Hetfield and Scott Ian were like-minded in metaldom.

I just played both back to back and Anthrax is a little faster. Otherwise, it's basically the same. The drums kick in, followed by the guitar riff.
