Just recently Port Arthur Texas Hip Hop duo UGK (Underground Kingz) dropped their last studio album the self titled UGK (Underground Kingz), an award winning album that went #1 in the US. No one knew at the time that that would be Pimp C’s (Chad Butler) last album. The always outspoken Pimp C was found dead after a 911 call alerted emergency personnel to his hotel room at the Mondrian Hotel in West Hollywood, CA the morning of December 4th, 2007.

Pimp C and Bun-B (the other half of UGK) have been making records together and apart since the early 90’s appearing on hit songs like, Big pimpin’ and this year's big hit with OutKast, International Players Anthem. They have also worked with the likes of Scarface, E-40 and Devin the Dude. Pimp C had just recently finished performing with Too $hort at the House of Blues in Los Angeles.

It really is a sad day for hip hop music, considering how well received UGK’s album was, to know that his career seemed to be on the upswing makes his loss hit even closer to home with Hip hop fans everywhere. The beauty of it is this; he and Bun-B made countless classics that will live on forever that we can all enjoy, that is what makes music across the board so special. While Pimp C is no longer with us physically, we can all celebrate his life every time we put a UGK CD into the player

I'd imagine you're wrong. Being found dead the way it was described usually suggests something drug related and/or passing in your sleep.

Yeah, rappers die of natural causes in their sleep in their 20s and 30s all the time. Don't you read the fucking papers?!?

Yeah, a man is dead. Let's uncork the champagne. Your constant bashing of hip-hop is one thing, if not redundant. But showing joy over the death of someone in this context seems uncalled for.

As a musician I personally can't stand Rap/Hip Hop, but I would never wish for, or celebrate, the death of anyone who wasn't a really nasty criminal (the worst of the worst).

I've always wondered why the sheer number of these people who are killed or die from drug overdoses doesn't wake many of their fans & friends up to the dangers of that lifestyle - is it that they just don't care? They're just too cool to care, and living life clean and away from violence as much as possible isn't cool? Some people seem like they don't understand how easy it is to die, and how permanent it is.

But then I am pretty removed from the "Hip Hop/Rap Culture," so what do I know?

Drug abuse isn't exactly exclusive to hip-hop. It seems much more rampant in the rock world.

yeah lets all makes jokes about someone dying. The same thing happened in the Sean Taylor thread when people came in their to put him down saying he was thug and got what he deserved. no one deserves to die and no one has the right to make jokes about someone dying. What kind of people are you? How would you like it if someone said "insert name here" died lets celebrate. Won't use names since I don't want to get in trouble with the moderators.

Not liking hip-hop's one thing. Though I don't agree, I can see where it wouldn't appeal to a lot of people. That said, I never understood the point behind those people coming into threads that are clearly hip-hop oriented. It'd be like me wandering into a country thread and make sweeping generalizations masked as not-so-original jokes.

I'm no great rap fan but I really do think it is poor form for any DVDTalker to profess his or her apparent delight at the death of an exponent of a musical genre for which they have little or no sympathy.

Let's call a halt to that sort of thing from this point onwards.
