Who cares who covers what? It's not like it deletes the original, I don't care if Celene Dion covers Master of Puppets... actually might enjoy listening to that.

I also like Fall Out Boy, but it wouldn't matter to me if I did or not.

Agreed 100%

I really like Fall Out Boy as well. My girlfriend and I got free tickets to their show in San Jose a couple days ago. Didn't care for the opening bands but Fall Out Boy and Gym Class Heroes were great.

Also OP, not sure if you know this or if it's worth mentioning, but 3/4 members of Fall Out Boy were in legit hardcore/metal bands out of Chicago Hardcore scene of the late/early 90's.

The drummer used to be in Spazz and along with the guitarist were in an amazing hardcore band called Racetraitor. The bassist used to sing for a metalcore band called Arma Angelus and played on and off (as a fill in) for Racetraitor. Does that make it alright that they covered Pantera now? Or does it matter because they aren't playing the kind of music they used to?

I'm fine that they covered it, as other poster mentioned it's not like they turned it into a pop-punk or emo song.

Also I see metal bands all the time covering songs that aren't in their genre, but rarely get flack about it. Apparently covering something that isn't metal when you are a metal band is supposed to be clever (ala Children of Bodom covering Britney Spears)

I actually posted that in the 'random video post' thread in otter. i was actually being somewhat sarcastic. I take alot of the over crapping on the so called emo bands as funny. Hearing metal fans argue over what is and what isn't. If wearing eye liner and black finger nails is consitered emo, then why aren't children of bodom, behemoth, and about 85% of the sweedish death metal bands bashed?

Because those bands don't sound like emo bands? If their music sounded emo, then they would be considered emo.

Maybe if one of their members stopped applying eyeliner and lipstick and concentrated on writing some good songs, they wouldn't be as c*appy as they've turned out.

Shouldn't this be in that pretentious bands thread?
Yeah... Pantera would never wear eyeliner and lipstick...

I'm an old school 80's hair metal guy and I like Fall Out Boy better than Pantera, at least they are doing their own thing and have some songs that are catchy and fun and way better than the Nicklebacks, Audioslaves and Stainds that are on the radio today. I'm not saying I don't like Pantera, they had some good songs, but can you say overrated?

Don't mind me, I'm going back to listening to my Ratt CD...

None of these beat the cringe enducingness of hearing Limp Bizkit (remember them?) covering Tool's Opiate. But I think that had to do more with 1) hearing Fred Durst sing and 2) personally being a big fan of the original.

I agree the bashing of "emo" or "pop-punk" bands is getting out of hand as of late. Then again I can't really blame people since there has been a huge influx of new bands of those types and ones getting signed.

I like Fall Out Boy but can we all agree that we can bash on Plain White T's and their song "Delilah". They opened up for Fall Out Boy and hearing a couple thousand people (aka girls) sing that song at the top of their lungs was rather frightening.

I agree with RichC2, most emo/pop-punk bands can't be nearly as bad as most of the bands that came out of the "nu metal" phase of the early to late nighties. That shit was BAD.
