New Bruce Springsteen and ESB - Magic - Oct 2

Musical `Magic' from Boss
Springsteen, E Street Band to reunite for a bit of `Magic'
By LARRY McSHANE
Associated Press Writer
08-16-2007 11:09
NEW YORK (AP) _ Bruce Springsteen is back with the E Street Band _
and a bit of "Magic."

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer returns Oct. 2 with a new album,
titled "Magic," his first collaboration with his longtime New Jersey
mates since the Sept. 11-inspired "The Rising" in 2002, Springsteen
announced through his publicist Thursday.

The album, other than its atmospheric title track, is billed as
Springsteen's return to rock 'n' roll after his solo "Devils & Dust"
and the folk-inspired "The Seeger Sessions." Fans can expect Clarence
Clemons' familiar saxophone, Danny Federici's soaring keyboards and
Max Weinberg's pounding drums _ along with a lot of guitars.
The 11-song album is Springsteen's first of all-new material since
April 2005, when he released the acoustic "Devils & Dust."

Springsteen's 15th studio album follows last year's "The Seeger
Sessions," where the Boss and a 17-piece backing band played
reconjured versions of songs associated with folkie Pete Seeger.
For this album, recorded with producer Brendan O'Brien in Atlanta,
Springsteen reunited with the full E Street Band to recreate its
Garden State wall of sound: guitarists Steve Van Zandt and Nils
Lofgren, bassist Garry Tallent, drummer Weinberg, keyboardists
Federici and Roy Bittan, sax man Clemons, violinist Soozie Tyrell and
vocalist Patti Scialfa.

Last year, Springsteen said he'd already written a "whole book of
songs for the E Street Band." He assembled the band earlier this year
and they finished the album in two months, about the same amount of
time spent recording the multi-platinum "The Rising."

Songs include the title track, the album opener "Radio Nowhere,"
"You'll Be Comin' Down," "Livin' in the Future," "Your Own Worst
Enemy," "Gypsy Biker," "Girls in Their Summer Clothes," "I'll Work for
Your Love," "Last to Die," "Long Walk Home" and "Devil's Arcade."
Details on a worldwide tour featuring the band were expected to
follow. Springsteen and the E Street Band sold out arenas and stadiums
around the globe during a 15-month tour behind "The Rising."

Was just about to post this. A pleasent surprise, indeed. Looking forward to Rock & Roll again; besides the title track, nothing in Devils & Dust did much for me and though The Seeger Sessions was fun, it was a slight diversion and nothing more.

I thought The Rising (the last one with E-Street) was fantastic, so I won't hesitate to get this unless it garners horrible reviews.

I also thought Devils & Dust wasn't that great. The Seeger Sessions was fun, but The Rising is one of my favourite albums this decade, so I'm really glad to hear that Bruce is bringing out another ESB record so soon - I'm in!

It has now been placed as a free download for iTunes but you can take a listen here:

Only 13 US dates? Are you kidding me?

I hate that album cover. It looks like he found an iron-on transfer inside his Live In Dublin CD and used it.

Not to mention it doesn't even credit the ESB.

Other than his live albums he never has and yet they still seem to come back and work with him. Maybe making them all millionaires softens the blow.

Wow. That seems odd. I wonder what the reasoning is behind that.

Because of that, BTW, the ESB won't be eligible for the Rock & Roll HOF until 2011 (which is 25 years after the live box set). There's a rule in the HOF eligibility requirements that the artist has to be listed on the album cover to be eligible for HOF enshrinement.

As much as I love BS&TESB, most of his album covers since Born to Run have been, well, nothing special.

When Bruce first signed with Columbia back in the early 70's, he signed as a solo act. The record company thought they were getting a folky singer-songwriter and were a little stunned when he showed up with a rock band in tow.

Contractually, all of his early albums were just Bruce Springsteen albums and I guess they just kept up that tradition (to avoid confusing the easily-flumoxed masses, I guess).

This has leaked and it sounds like a return to his classic sound. Really great songs. Lots of loud guitars and saxaphone solos. I'm really digging it.

A reminder to cungar, and anyone tempted to follow suit....

.... discussion of material obtained without proper recompense to the copyright holders for a very long time has been frowned upon on DVDtalk.

Bruce definately needs to start rocking out again, I for one just can't get that image of him in "The streets of Philidelphia" Video. He acted and looked so damm depressing. In fact he looked like the kind of guy that would come to your house on a rusted bicycle and ask if you had any yard work he could do for you for a few bucks!

If they follow The Rising tour template, a second US leg will continue well into 2008

am I the only one who hates this packaging? Taking the CD in and out of that sleeve can get it scratched by the edges of the sleeve holding the booklet, unless you bend the left side back far...usually there would be a middle section to seperate the two... maybe I'm just anal. Great album anyhow.

I think that I'll be picking this one up on CD. So I guess that Circuit City's $8.99 is the best deal? Also, there's no copy protection on the CD, right? I'll be putting this on my .mp3 player.

As for the album cover - yes, it's plain, but it's fitting for his image. Besides, how often do you really

That's kind of a personal question, don't you think?

And yes, the CD is completely ripable.

I think I'm holding off a bit. I held off with buying The Seeger Sessions and it paid off with a DVD.
