New Siouxsie ! ! !

She has a new band called Mantaray. Album is out early September.
Here's the first single. The video is fantastic! And she looks amazing.

Oh hell yes. Siouxsie Sioux is one of my favorite artists. I will buy just about anything she's involved with. Speaking of which, I still need to pick up her new DVD.

If it's the DVD with the orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall in London, give it a rent first. I thought it was terrible.

I think you meant to say the album is called Mantaray. According to that link you posted, it's her going solo.

Just heard this for the first time and for some reason it's much better than I anticipated. Smart using some crunchy guitars in the mix.

That single has really grown on me---my favorite song from her in years. I picked up the album, and I would say it's quite solid. I don't think too many Siouxsie fans would be overly disappointed. I guess she broke up with Budgie romantically and professionally, and that seems to be a running theme through the album.

album's a mixed bag.... the first single sounded like a car commercial song to me. some good tunes on there, but the styles are all over the place. not very cohesive.

Do you think Siouxsie "bursting out into a swan" is code for menopause?

She's still sexy as hell though.

It's actually a direct reference to her recent divorce from Budgie (Banshees' drummer). Several of the song lyrics deal with this split. The CD isn't bad, but Budgie's drumming would be one of the main factors for me to check out any Siouxsie or Creatures material. With him effectively gone, she seems to have surrounded herself with people that know her back catalog very well and don't stray to far from that formula. Not that it's a bad thing, but I was hoping the music itself would be a little varied. So many tracks sound the same that I sometimes forget I'm listening to a whole CD rather than a CD single with remixes.

I've been playing the hell out of this CD---it really works for me. I guess it's not that groundbreaking, but it really feels to me like Siouxsie doing Siouxsie really well, with very well-crafted, hooky songs, with her voice and trademark affectations right up front.

Also, every time I listen to this, I think "man, they should sign her up to do the next James Bond theme", since half the tracks on this album sound like they could be already.
