Radiohead "Nearly There" on New LP

Pitchfork News "nearly there" on a Radiohead story containing actual news

OMG! OMG!

According to a post from guitarist Ed O'Brien on Radiohead's Dead Air Space blog today, the band is close to finishing their new album. Here's the text of the post in full:

"a word from the studio
Yes I know its been a while ..... but we've been working on this album for a while ...... BUT WE ARE NEARLY THERE .....

Ed"

Um, yeah. That's it.

Yes, we still felt the need to tell you about it. Why? Well, for the same reason we had to tell you that the band posted ten seconds of a new tune on their website and that their songs are in a ballet: BECAUSE IT'S FRICKIN RADIOHEAD.

BREAKING NEWS!

Radiohead takes a dump. Nations rejoice!

I hope their new CD will sound different than their last couple. I'm all for experimental sounds, but they're quickly delving into just ambience. Used to be number one on my all time favorite bands, but is falling fast (esp. with great new bands like Beirut, Band of Horses, Wolf Parade, & Arcade Fire coming out with very cool stuff)

Arpeggi (studio version) will be the best song ever.

I wasn't too impressed by the new material live...hopefully dragging out the recording process for a hella long time can turn out great studio versions of the songs

I agree, however I'll reserve my opinion until I hear the polished sound.

Cool. I can't wait to hear this. Although it has seemed like they've been nearly finished for a while a now.

This needs to be added to the list of forum jokes that won't die.

So I guess this means the sessions that they worked with Spike on will be scrapped in favor of the ones with Nigel. Not that that is a bad thing.

I don't really get at this point why they need Nigel or any producer..i'd be more interested in something they solely self produce and record, I am sure they are capable of it. Nigel is great at what he does, but would be kinda cool for him to step away for an album also.

Nigel posted some snippets from the album on Dead Air Space.

"I keep bits of tape which have been chopped out of the mixes when they were edited .. stick em on a reel.. when you play it back it sounds like.. this"

Sounds excellent to me! Some of it sounds like it will piss off the people who dislike their later albums that have evident influence from electronic music.

Although I checked out the related clip after of a live cut of Bangers 'n' Mash and that song is definitely part of the studio tape cuts too.
