I don't really understand the negative criticism of this. I too had my expectations lowered expecting a bunch of droopy ballads. But I think it's every bit as good, if not better than Twin Cinema (which had quite few ballads too). And is easily one of my top 5 for the year so far. Quite creative with their 'box set' executive edition too.

Can't wait to see them open for Spoon in Nov!

well shit on me. I picked this up based on this thread, and there are some killer tracks on here. First listen through and I'm all about Myriad Harbour and Old Showstoppers.

I read that Pitchfork review and assumed the worst... but damn, I really quite like this CD. It's a slightly different than the other three, and I would agree that Neko's not used enough, but I'd rate it more highly than Twin Cinema. I feel like it's The New Pornographers: The Easy Listening Edition, but there's really nothing wrong with that when you've got the kind of sound that they do.

On the other hand, Pitchfork was spot on about the new Rilo Kiley. 75% of that disc is just... blah...
