The Editors are a totally different beast than Interpol (especially in guitar sound). The Editors have life in them and put on a completely different live show that has energy in it, where as when you see Interpol it's like going to a hipster funeral.

Interpol does need to branch out a bit, I don't get too much of a payoff from their songs (lack of climax?) I actually like Antics, because it didn't feel like the first album totally done over..I just hope they keep expanding and don't stay with the nyu hipster identity in both sound and image.

Dam I guess Cosmic Bus your right but the other band sounds pretty good.

naitram 05-04-07 04:13 PM

Ya I downloaded that torrent, but on first listen I knew I'd been had. Definitely not Interpol, but a few songs sure could be convincing if I hadn't listened to them so damn much.

It's actually a great album though, heavier than Interpol and very Joy Division in spots. And I don't care if people are sick of that comparison. :p

There's a single, "The Heinrich Maneuver", up for download in the iTunes store as of today. The 30-sec preview of it alone indicates there is a stylistic difference in their sound for this album.

Just previewed their first single on iTunes. It sounds good. Definitely noticed some differences with them going in a slightly more uptempo/lighter/less brooding sound. Nothing extreme though and it still sounds good and better than 90% of whats out there today. Hopefully their slow but rising popularity won't turn this album into what the same situation turned Death Cab for Cutie's album "Plans"- still DCC but less so in order to appeal to the masses. Im looking forward to the album.

Me too. Not the best song from Interpol but its shows promise that the album is going to be awesome.

Going to go see them in Toronto at Virgin Festival. Woohoo.

Cosmic Bus 05-15-07 07:22 PM

nm.

MTV is streaming the entire album on their website for preview. I think the new album sounds great.

cranberries fan 07-04-07 02:20 PM

It been out Online for over 2 1/2 weeks Penguin42.
I have a review of it just search on my other posts.

Finally listened to this album. It's utter shit. The single is laughable, how are you on the WESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSIDE?
Whole album sounds like it was made for teenagers with immediate (but boring) melodies and simple lyrics. Go play another KROQ festival, Paul Banks and co!

Turn On The Bright Lights was such a great debut, this is rather disappointing.
How can a band go from great songs like "Untitled", "Stella was a diver..." and "The New" to crap like the aforementioned single (Heinrich Maneuver) and "Mammoth" and other bad songs on this album?

Decent songs on the new album:
"Pioneer to the Falls", "Wrecking Ball", "Lighthouse".

Uh, not really. Might not be as strong as what came before, but it's not the worst thing I've heard recently.

how are you on the WESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSIDE?
How are things on the West Coast?

Arpeggi 07-05-07 07:21 PM

Something like that.

i just listened, and i agree with you. although, i wouldn't say it's utter shit. it's pretty boring. the first song sounds promising, and has more of the atmosphere from the songs on TOTBL (which was a very very good album). after that, i think i fell asleep.

2.5/5 on first listen.

Arpeggi 07-06-07 10:18 PM

Yes, the first song is pretty good. It goes downhill fast from there.

cranberries fan 07-06-07 11:08 PM

You all should listen to the cd more than once.
It better than most of stuff out-there right now (teen-crap).

Thank you SomeVoices.
UPDATE: Entertainment Weekly rated it a A- with these songs as the highlights-Pioneer to The Falls--Rest My Chemistry--The Lighthouse.

"Better than most of the stuff out there" doesn't mean that it's good.

Drop 07-08-07 03:03 PM

Album sounds great to me. Right up there with the other two. I'm glad they change their sound a little bit with each album. I don't need another Turn On the Bright Lights, already have that album.

As a long time reader of Entertainment Weekly, you can pretty much take any of their reviews with a grain of salt.
