I'm only a casual fan, but how are the remasters? I really want to get Some Great Reward, my old cd of it is very low-sounding and I love 3/4th of that album. Also, how are the DVD documentaries on that? I want to get SGR and Violator without hesitation, and some of the others down the road.

I don't know about 'Some Great Reward' & 'Violator' but I know the 'Speak & Spell' & 'A Broken Frame' remasters sound great. They are major upgrades from the original CDs. The documentaries are pretty good on the 2 that I have; lots of clips and interview stuff. I think that they're kind of steep in price but well worth it.

I'd rate all the remasters in this order:

"Playing the Angel" - (*****) OK, so it's technically not one of the "remastered" albums. But it came out in 5.1 surround at the time of it's original release. If you guys don't have this, stop reading now and go get it. Trust me.

"Black Celebration" - (*****) Listening to this in surround sound for the first time was like listening to the album for the very first time. It is, in a word, amazing. The bass, which the original seemed to lack, kicks ass. Some songs don't even sound the same as they did on the original. The very best of the remastered albums. So far.

"Some Great Reward" - (**** 1/2) Same as above. There is a crispness and richness to this album. Making it sound as current as anything out there now.

"Music For The Masses" - (****) - Stand out tracks "The Things You Said" and "Behind the Wheel".

"Violator" - (****) Sounds great. But so did the original. Not much different. Just more polished.

"Construction Time Again" - (***1/2) Good, not great.

"Speak and Spell" and "A Broken Frame" - (***1/2) Sound great, but the originals were horribly dated so they do sound fresh.

"Songs of Faith and Devotion" - (***) Don't like the material in the first place. But I couldn't tell much difference in the sound.

I believe that DM has put the entire digital collection up on Itunes. 650+ songs/b-sides/live tracks. for a price of 149.99$ or something.

Everything they've ever released is part of that package except the most recent "Greatest Hits" album and the remastered albums.

Need to upgrade my review for the remastered "A Broken Frame". Listening to it now in DTS 5.1. Still not a huge fan of the material but it does sound great. ****1/2

I honestly ignored any posts that didn't include statements like, "Depeche Mode is one of the greatest groups ever". They became "it" for me at Black Celebration and although there have been ups and downs as far as albums I generally just love them.

I picked up SGR on ebay and Violator at Best Buy and am thoroughly impressed with both.

Are the CD/DVD-A combos stopping off at Songs Of Faith And Devotion or will Ultra, Exciter and Playing The Angel (which there was already a limited pressing) come as well? Ultra and Exciter aren't exactly my faves but if SOFAD got it, I don't see why skip those two.
