the "REAL" Return of the Rentals / RENTALS Appreciation Thread

http://www.therentals.com/return/

WE ARE EXTREMELY EXCITED AND HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THE UNEXPECTED AND TRUE RETURN OF THE RENTALS. THE BAND IS CURRENTLY IN LOS ANGELES WRITING, REHEARSING, AND PREPARING TO RECORD THEIR 3rd STUDIO ALBUM.

THE SPECULATION IS THAT THE NEW ALBUM IS LIKELY TO BE COMPLETED AND READY FOR RELEASE IN 2007. IN THE MEANWHILE, WHILE WE WAIT WITH GREAT ANTICIPATION FOR THE NEW MUSIC, THIS WEB-SITE WILL DEDICATE ITSELF TO SHOWING THE FIRST EVER COMPLETE RETROSPECTIVE ON THE RENTALS.

THERE WILL BE NEARLY DAILY UPDATES WITH TOTALLY NEW AND EXCLUSIVE INFORMATION ON THE RENTALS, SO STAY TUNED AND WELCOME ABOARD.

I think its about time that this great band had a real thread dedicated to them, instead of what exists now - which started off as questions in the title, such as "Friends With Pete," but do contain some useful information. Maybe the Moderators can merge that with this?

Apparently I was asleep in 1995 and missed the breakout hit single Friend of P from their debut album Return of the Rentals, but better late than never. A co-worker said to me in December of 2006, Check out "Friend of P" and I did, then went a step further than my co-worker did - I checked out the rest of what The Rentals had to offer. Man oh Man, did I strike it rich!

I randomly collected as many song titles as I could find and burned them on one CD, and after many repeated listenings, I never could tell which was from their first album, and which were from their second - it was all great, and it all sounded like it was recorded in one time period.

I look forward to the new studio album, and expect the same - if not better - greatness that preceeded it.

The second album, Seven More Minutes has some real gems - She Says Its Alright is my favorite, with Getting By and Say Goodbye Forever near the top as well.

From their first album, aside from Friend of P, there's Please Let That Be You, The Love I'm Searching For, Move On, and especially, Sweetness And Tenderness as the stand-out songs.

There's a Rentals song called California that wasn't on either album, but I managed to find it somehow, and it also is a real gem. For some reason, they remade the song on their 2nd album and called it Barcelona, which is not so great.

Do yourself a favor and check out one or both of these wonderful albums - you won't be disappointed. The music is unique (mog?), and it has male and female vocalists for a real ear-candy experience.
