I've listened to this a few times now and I like it a lot, a little more with every listen, which means it's a grower (for me).

I've been listening to it quite a bit for the past week, probably listened to it 10 times now. Its definitely a huge grower. First listen, a few songs at the beginning stood out, but the rest kind of blended together. Now after experiencing it for a while, all the tracks seem great. There are a couple track that aren't up to the quality of the rest, and maybe its a case where they should have just left them off and made the album shorter, but there's nothing I'm tempted to skip over. Overall I enjoy it much more than Good News right now.

Yeah, I liked it at first listen, but love it now after giving it a good 10 listens at work this week.

I really like this record. To be honest, I wasn't anticipating it. I liked their last record but they aren't one of those bands that I live for...but this album may make me change my mind on that. I've listened to it about 8 times and there is hardly a bad track on here...like stated above, a few aren't as great as others, but they are hardly terrible. A very decent follow-up to "good news" that should thrill fans. 'Dashboard' is a great first single and a really fun song.

the only song I don't really like is the first one...

i agree the album is a grower. this may be good, as all the MTV indie wannabies will trash the album after one listen and MM will go back to their pre-good news obscurity. here's to hoping

Yes.

God forbid that the band members can make their mortgage payments.

Or, afford health insurance.

if you mean "go back to making good music" then i'm all for it. i simply don't like this album. whether it's mainstream, corporate, indie, whatever. it stinks.

Does this band remind anyone else of a modern day Talking Heads?

I could see that. Whenever a David Byrne song comes on my iPod, I think "WTF is this?", and the same is about true when I hear a new MM song.

I still haven't tried to get in to this album...I just need an extended block of time. I listened to "Good News" last night and didn't mind it as much as I thought I did.

Best Buy has a 3-track sampler available this week w/ a coupon for the disc next week. Anyone have any idea/heads up on what may be on that sampler and if it is worth getting?

EDIT: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....at114800050008

Nothing new.

Great album. Not my favorite (Lonesome and Good News take that trophy), but a solid hour of great music from one of my favorite bands.

Florida, Spitting Venom, and March Into The Sea are great. Parting of the Sensory is my favorite though, probably one of my favorite MM songs ever!

I'll probably pick it up at some point just to stay honest. I can't say I like it as much as Moon and Antarctica (which I just listened to for the first time), but it's one to have in the collection.

I have been a Modest Mouse fan for quite awhile even though that has forced me to take some comments from friends about my interests but whatever... I am perhaps a weird fan in that my favorite albums are Building Nothing out of Something and This Is a Long Drive which I don't think anyone names all that often as their favorites. In saying that.. Good News was perhaps my least favorite and I don't know what to make of this one.

I hear good things and I hear some things I don't care for, like when they escape into sing along chorus too often on Missed the Boat or Florida, then they will come out and do something I really like in those songs. I think this is a good album though and I am not disappointed in their direction.

I've listened to "This a Long Drive" but not enough to call it a favorite. I picked up on sale at BB a few wks ago, and I'm still trying to get in to it. I've found it's much harder to get into a debut when you've heard later stuff from a band, but it's also important to listen to the early stuff to either appreciate where they've been or appreciate how far they've come.

Maybe it is...I just haven't listened to it enough. Maybe it's a favorite of the pre-Good News folks and the folks who think "Float On" was their debut smash hit.

Caught the show last night here in Portland, they played a fair number of the new tracks. Can't quite remember all of them, but they did a good job bringing in some older tunes as well.

Damn. I hate seeing shows at the Greek Theater. Sucks for L.A. folks (unless, y'know, you happen to like the Greek). It's mainly the parking that sucks.

Saw them last night. The show was very good, I think having more members has really improved their sound quality, it's the third time Ive seen them, and it definately sounded the best. (Isaac said the show the night before was terrible, as he was drunk and screwing stuff up. Was anyone at that one?)

They played a good mix of old and new and I think the new stuff translates really well to a live show. I am glad I was able to listen to it before the show at least.

I was excited for the opening band, Love as Laughter, as well...but they were pretty boring.
