i'm getting the feeling that yeah this release is going to be standard stereo, and that later on he will probably release a DVD and HD type release of a video/movie with a 5.1 mix...with the rumors of a Year Zero movie being thrown around.

Picked this up tonight thanks to the local indie music store that tends to break street dates by a day or two. I've listened to it once all the way through and started my second listen. My initial reaction is really positive. It's a much more cohesive album than With Teeth. I guess having a concept behind the album will do that. The lyrics seem a lot more intelligent than those in With Teeth as well. Early standout tracks for me are Survivalism, The Good Soldier, Capital G, My Violent Heart, and In This Twilight. I'll definitely need a few more listens to digest it all but so far I'm really enjoying it. Oh, and the packaging and artwork is pretty slick too.

I thought it flowed better as well. However, it didn't seem to flow as well as I think a concept album should.
Not that it matters, I guess. It's what Trent wanted, and I like the songs. I'll be picking mine up in a few hours, so I can't comment on the packaging yet.

So what, all this Piracy is a crime stuff hasn't been working so now their trying to push the moral issue!?! Or is this part of the 'arg' thing I've only briefly heard about....

I picked this up at Wal-Mart this morning when I got off of work for $14. I checked online at their website, and it is listed at $10 with free shipping to the store. I called Wal-Mart, and asked a manager if they would honor thier online pricing at the store, to which the manager said no.
I then asked the manager if what she was saying, was that it is cheaper for them to ship a cd from the warehouse to the store, than it was for me to just walk into the store to pick it up. "Yes", she said.
I then asked if I can return cds for a full return, as long as they haven't been opened. "Of course" was the response. I told her that I would then order the cd, have it shipped to her store, walk in, pick it up, and then turn around and return it with the receipt for the higher priced disc. I thanked her for her time, and she hung up on me.
The cd is cool, though. I don't like digipaks, and wish people would stop using them, but that's about the only complaint I have.

you should, it's outstanding. i can see this quickly becoming a fav of mine. it has so much of the grindy guitar noise that i love from broken and pretty hate machine, combined nicely with ambient elements from stuff like the fragile, with lyrics most simliar to those from downward spiral.
i love it.

I haven't really been keeping up with the whole ARG thing, but here's my impressions of what the 'year zero' story is:
Basically a man wakes up and realizes that his gov't has become out of control and insanely oppressive (think V for Vend). He then decides to fight back against them. He is eventually tracked down and the gov't tries to brainwash him. At first he acts like he is brainwashed, but it didn't actually work... He waits for the perfect moment and then strikes back.
He ends up destroying everything, bringing us all back to square one to start humanity over again. As the dust settles he wonders where to go from here and simply asks god for forgiveness.
That's how I see the story anyway. Anyone else get a different message?

I've been listening to the feed off the website for the last few days and really like it. Great video for Survivalism too. Definitely a stronger effort than With Teeth. I can't wait for the tour.....
Survivalism - Me, I'm not - Vessel - My Violent Heart..... kickass.

Nine Inch Nails played a secret show in LA tonight for people involved in the 'Year Zero' mania. 50 people were loaded onto a bus with blacked out windows and driven to a warehouse and treated to 4 or 5 songs before a SWAT team(staged of course) broke in and shut it down. Apparently it's all for an upcoming video.
