At Vanguard? I thought about going to that but couldn't convince myself.

Yes, and you should have went. The crowd wasn't very big but very into the show. There were some really good crowd performances of some ERB. One young guy delivered Shakespeare's lines word for word and on point.

Newton would have won had Neil not shown up.

I loved his live show, but don't have any interest in his albums. The few songs I have never get played. I'm glad he's still making music, and hope the best for him, meaning more live concerts.

^Well then you should be happy. An album usually means touring to support said album.

I met Weird Al last year at one of his concerts. He autographed my CD. He didn't charge anything. A true class act.

Has anyone heard what the track listings are for his newest album?

Hailey G 06-25-14 09:47 PM

Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread

Apparently the lead single will be a parody of Iggy Azalea's "Fancy"

Al was caught on video recently backstage at one of her shows asking her permission. Other than that, nothing has leaked that I know of.

It's possible something will sneak out before then, but the track listing will be up on iTunes on July 1st.

By the way, I’ll have 8 – that’s right, 8 – brand new music videos… and I’ll be world-premiering one every single day for eight days straight, starting on July 14!

Get excited!!!

What's the beef between Nye and Newton? Why must they do battle? This is sort of like The Planet Money guys battling Adam Smith.

I counted the soldiers. I counted the airplanes. Neither total 27. Disappointed.

This appears to be the tracklisting from Wikipedia (linked to itunes):

"Handy"
"Lame Claim to Fame"
"Foil"
"Sports Song"
"Word Crimes"
"My Own Eyes"
"NOW That's What I Call Polka!"
"Mission Statement"
"Inactive"
"First World Problems"
"Tacky"
"Jackson Park Express"

Any speculation as to paradies based on the titles? Let the guessing begin!!!!

pinata242 06-30-14 01:19 PM

Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread

I'm calling "Foil" as a "Royals" parody.

Hailey G 06-30-14 01:44 PM

Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread

I would guess "Handy" is the suspected Iggy Azalea "Fancy" parody

wahlers 06-30-14 01:49 PM

Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread

I'm personally hoping that Tacky is a Happy parody. :thumbsup:

The Cow 06-30-14 01:50 PM

Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread

I'd guess "Inactive" to be some parody of "Radioactive"

Weird Al posted on social media that there are (will be) 8 videos. I am guessing half of them will probably be animated?

Can't wait to see 'em :)

His videos are almost always as good as his albums.

I can't wait. I wish he was doing a parody of Team instead of Royals (assuming that's what it is).

I'm wondering what song is a parody of a popular 90s group that Patton Oswalt alluded to.

Hailey G 06-30-14 02:09 PM

Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread

Based on his recent video output, I would expect at least 6 or 7 of the videos to be animated. Last album we only got the one live action video (Perform this Way), but I think there was a video for every track on the album (even the polka medley).

Pretty sure the previous album (Straight Outta Lynwood) only had the one live action video too (White and Nerdy).

"Handy" = "Happy"
"Tacky" = "Fancy"
"Foil" = "Royals"

Those are the only ones that I can think of.
"NOW That's What I Call Polka!" is probably most likely a mix of popular songs as usual.

I am thinking Tacky is Happy

pinata242 06-30-14 02:35 PM

Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread

Nah, I see a "Happy" parody being the lead single. That's "Handy", for sure. Especially with the clapping in the dances I've had the <s>misfortune</s> pleasure of seeing.

Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread

"Word Crimes" = "Blurred Lines"
"Inactive" = "Radioactive"

?
