Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread
Not working on weird al's website for me either.

Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread
I can't see it either.
BTW I didn't see this posted yet, but he did a "Talks at Google" yesterday: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/EJk3pLWxs4o" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread
Love the First World Problems video. Feels like a classic Al video. I couldn't get it to work on his website, either.

Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread
I liked First World Problems a lot too, and even though I'm not a huge fan of Sports Song, It's awesome that we're getting live action videos for his originals. That hasn't happened very often.
I mean other than this, we've got what? Dare to Be Stupid and Craigslist? I guess you could count "Bob" too, but I think that was a bit he did for his short lived TV show. |

This Is the Life Dare to Be Stupid One More Minute Christmas at Ground Zero UHF You Don't Love Me Anymore Spy Hard Bob Craigslist "Bob" was on AlTV in 2003 or something like that. Not sure if it was made for that or as a video to play during costume changes on tour. |
Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread
Wow, I can't believe I forgot that many. And I've seen all of those. Actually, You Don't Love Me Anymore did come to mind, but for some reason I was thinking it was a short that didn't cover the whole song. I'm getting old.
And AL TV was always dual purpose, to promote his album and to provide content to play on tour. :) EDIT: And looking Back, 3 of those are from Dare to Be Stupid. It's probably his only album where the originals got just as much (if not more) attention than the parodies. |

Not sure, but if you're looking to grab it, it's 5.99 on Amazon MP3 right now.
EDIT: I tried to do a little research on the topic, and though it doesn't specifically reference amazon or eMusic, I found this on Billboard's site:

Just to show you how completely out if touch with modern culture I am, I assumed "Fancy" was the Reba song. Love "Word Crimes" as a notorious grammar nazi :D.

Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread
I'm guessing that the last video will be for Inactive. It's the last straight parody left.

Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread
Lame Claim to Fame - Fun one to watch. Lots of little things to look for all around the video.

Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread
OK, I was way off on the last pick.
The final video is Mission Statement, and believe it or not, the host for it is the Wall Street Journal. The link isn't working yet, but jeez, I never thought I'd see Weird Al teaming up with the WSJ. http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2014/...ent-exclusive/ OK, it works at the link, but embedding didn't work. Oh well, it's animated, and I'd say the worst of the 8. |
Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread
Interesting little story on http://www.truscribe.com/ about the making of this last one.
|
Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread
I was really hoping for an Inactive video. Easily my favorite song on the album.
|
Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread
Are there NO plans to produce videos for the remaining songs on the album, or is it possible that it'll happen at a later date? I'm really surprised Inactive wasn't one of them, honestly. It was such an obvious choice. I could see him doing that one later, kind of like a real "single."

Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread
I think it's possible we could get animated videos later (we got an animated video later for the polka medley on the last album), but I wouldn't expect as much care to be put into them as these. More along the lines of the animated videos we got on the last couple of albums which he wasn't heavily involved in.

Re: The Weird Al Yankovic Appreciation Thread
Apparently, today is the 25th Anniversary of UHF. "Sometimes you have to grab life by the lips and YANK as hard as you can." That's a
Blu ray release I could get behind! |

Kind of Meh on Mission Statement... It's full of annoying corporate speak that I can't stand. I swear that it seems, at times, managers create these "catch phrases" and words just to make themselves sound intelligent when all they are doing is stringing long words together because if it sounds like a complex word it must be impressive.
Al is on ABC World News Tonight, if anyone is interested. I can't believe UHF is 25 years old. I'm glad I still have the DVD because it doesn't seem like Fox is is any hurry to put out a BD. |
