No votes for Michael Jackson? (Maybe there are, I've had a few tonight!)

I gotta go with MJ and Elton John. And know, I'm not a homosexual.

Alright....kidding here. Personally I never liked MJ's voice. Just thought is was too weak. As a performer (at the time), possibly.

Indeed, Michael actually has quite a good voice, which is often overlooked. He also has a surprisingly wide vocal range for someone with such a weak and feminine speaking voice.

For me, the most interesting thing about Michael's singing is when he goes into that "screw you all" mode, spitting words out of his mouth. It is also because of this that HIStory remains my favourite album by Michael. There is a lot of anger in there, as the album is really quite personal. Dangerous has that, too.

MJ for sure. Someone who can go from She's Out of My Life to Scream and everything in the middle. That's not even taking into account how amazing his voice was as a kid, which can't really be said for anyone else who has been mentioned. He also does a lot of great percussive stuff with his voice, including a lot of what was essentially beatboxing on Off The Wall, before it was even known as that and used in hip hop.

Prince is great too, and I've always loved Josh Homme's voice for some reason but it probably wouldnt be in the realm of greatest..

Has anyone mentioned Marvin Gaye yet? He'd probably get my vote as single best male vocalist of the past 30 years.

Some other greats:
Freddie Mercury
Elton John
David Bowie
Jon Anderson of Yes
Roger Daltrey
Bryan Ferry (just about the only man alive who can do justice to 30's/40's ballads anymore)
David Sylvian
Stevie Wonder
Scott Walker
Mick Jagger (he may have limited range, but he has better control over his voice than 99% of people in music)
Prince
Paul McCartney
John Lennon
Johnny Cash
Bruce Dickinson

Al Green

(although his best work is over 30 years old, from the early '70s, his voice is still great)

Thom Yorke has an incredibly beautiful voice and has quite a range too.

Don't know if I'd necessarily choose him, though.
