Big Trouble in Little China
For those interested, La La Land Records just released a 2 CD Soundtrack for Big Trouble in Little China. Although the autographed copies have already sold out, this set is limited to 3000 copies and it looks to be awesome. It contains the complete score by John Carpenter and Alan Howarth.

Re: Favorite movie soundtrack scores
I love all the Ocean's scores...if you can call them that. David Holmes really went all out for those...and he did Out of Sight which is, well, out of sight.
Lately, I have been into There Will Be Blood (although Greenwood had already used a few of those songs before) and Pan's Labyrinth.

I really like the soundtrack to Boyle's Sunshine. Anyone know where I can get a decent copy? The version on iTunes is pretty poor quality.

Ennio Morricone for Cinema Paradiso and Bernard Herrmann for his Taxi Driver Score. I also have mention David Holmes' cool score for the Ocean's Trilogy.

No one mentioned these? Some greats already mentioned.
Alan Silvestri, 'Forrest Gump Suite'. This is an amazing piece, whether you like the movie or not... amazing work here by Alan. Also a decent soundtrack.
'Local Hero' is one of my favorite sountracks.
Sue Jorge 'The Life Aquatic' sessions.

Re: Favorite movie soundtrack scores
I agree with John Barry's A View to A Kill score, "A Date with Stacy" aka stringed-instrumental of the title song is awesome. Another awesome Barry score is from, of all places, Howard the Duck.
I'd add the following:
Morricone's score of "the Mission", with the beautiful oboe work.
Angelo Badalamenti's "The Straight Story" orchestrated strings in a country bluegrass style
Lalo Schifrin's "The Osterman Weekend" great early 80's e-piano and sax jazz in the "Peaceful Coexistence" track.
Tangerine Dream's Thief - "Beach Scene" is great sweeping piece with some arpeggiated synth work on the later tracks.
Talking Heads "Songs from True Stories" the instrumentals found through out the film excel past the sung pieces.
Harry Gregson-Williams' work on "Man on Fire" and "Spy Game"
David Mansfield's "Heaven's Gate" and "Year of the Dragon" work.

I love the soundtrack for "Rush". Eric Clapton does the score, plus two songs including Tears in Heaven, but my favorite track is Buddy Guy's "Don't know which way to Go."

Jurassic Park was the first time I saw a movie and decided while watching it I needed to own the CD. I bought it that same day. The first time I ever flew, I was by myself. I'm terrified of heights. I had my Discman and put on this CD when we got underway. (Yes, I know they say not to, but the stewardess looked right at me and never said a thing to me, so I figured it wasn't a big deal.) It was so relaxing, just hearing that music while looking out the window at the clouds, that to this day I can hear the music and I feel calm.
In 1999, friends and I were in Chicago for Wizard World and discovered that the Chicago Symphony Orchestra was performing a night of Williams's film themes...conducted by Williams himself! It was at Ravinia, which is an amphitheater on gorgeous park grounds. We, of course, went and it was spectacular. The theme from Jurassic Park was the first thing played after intermission, just as the sun set.
