What if you want to request CDs LaLa doesn't list? I'll admit, it's quite possible the things I'm looking for don't exist on CD, but can you add titles or request they be added?

You can request them, but you'll receive a canned reply that says to be patient because their database is always growing. I have a lot of Canadian stuff (including several Rheostatics and Northern Pikes albums) that still hasn't been added six months after I requested everything by name.

mndtrp 08-29-06 02:47 AM

I've put mine in a box, and will try to add them 6 months down the road. The site is still growing, so hopefully they will get them added at some point.

atlantamoi 08-29-06 06:49 AM

I've got two big boxes full of CDs I'm waiting to add to the database. I'm hoping their fix will include manual inserting of titles.

Dr. Henry Jones, Jr. 08-29-06 09:17 AM

wow I got rid of my Echobrain CD. Didn't see that one coming.

mndtrp 08-30-06 02:35 AM

It really does boggle the mind some of the discs I trade. It's good that someone out there wants them.

I give a big thumbs up to lala.

Yep. Back when I started this back in May I also found a stack of 6-10 year old PC games. I tossed them in the trash. While I was listing my CDs on lala, I figured, what the hell they've been in that box for 3 years, what's a few more months if I list them on half.com? Pulled them out of the trash and listed 'em. I've sold 3 so far out of 5 for an average of about $12 each. It's amazing what people still want.

Just a note for people using my app...

LaLa cookies seem to expire after a couple months, so you'll have to update your cookie about that often. If you ever get a "failed to find magic phrase" error, the first thing to try should be updating the cookie.

Big thanks to your program. It's snagged me a lot of trades. The girlfriend and I will be on the couch, and I'll hear the tones, which she can't seem to hear. I'll jump up and knock stuff over trying to get to the computer before I lose the bubble.

Well, I decided to join lala and got my first cd in. It appears that it must have been dirty before the previous owner sent it because it looks like it was run thru a washing machine.

Tell me, is this the condition of the cds most of you are getting? The booklet was okay but not in the best shape and of course I did not get any rear art.

My discs that I have sent out are of course in perfect condition and I would not even consider sending a disc with scratches. Am I unusual? Gonna maybe get a few more but this appears to be a last resort type place to get cds if you are anal like me in regards to the condition of your discs.

Also...what is the use of posting your lists for people? Doesn't lala determine who you trade with and what order you get your trades in?

cdollaz 09-07-06 06:40 PM

You will see the full spectrum as far as condition goes. I've gotten pristine and some that look like they were ground into a concrete sidewalk. I've only have 2 that didn't play, though.

I am definately starting to love this. They have a pretty crappy interface, but the system works. I posted a suggestion to raise the price to $2.50 and give an extra $.75 to the artists. Still the cheapest way to get cds, and I like to support the artists.

Like cdollaz said, you will get discs in all sorts of condition. Going into this, expect that there will be some sort of scratch on every disc and you will be less likely to be dissapointed. Only a small portion of my discs received (maybe 5 or 6 of 70 I have got) would be what I consider perfect. From there the condition ranges from a single scratch to looking like a brillo pad was used. Only 2 have had actual skips on them.

Posting lists will give people other ideas of what discs to request. If it is a more obscure title, a trade between DVDTalkers would be more likely.

Dr. Henry Jones, Jr. 09-08-06 10:45 AM

I've done 14 trades and so far 1 unplayable and 1 not received.

saoirse 09-08-06 10:54 AM

Out of 50 or so I've received:
3 were scratched and unplayable and about 10 or so didn't have the back art. All in all it's been very good especially for $1.75 a CD. Plus if you get a scratched on, I don't think you pay anything.

That was YOU? :mad2: :D2:

I've received around 80 CDs so far and I've only heard one skip. I'm not a perfectionist (but oddly just about every CD I've sent out is in pristine shape) and am okay with discs that aren't A+.

mndtrp 09-10-06 01:42 AM

Almost all of my receives have been perfect. Only one hasn't come in after three weeks.

Cosmic Bus 09-10-06 01:37 PM

I've also only had one lost CD since April. Not a single one has arrived damaged, either.

Recently I've been looking for some classical to add to my want list and it's a bitch trying to do so, especially if you're after a particular edition. Half the listings don't show covers, have incomplete track or performer lists, etc... Too bad you can't search by UPC or something.

Please shoot yourself before making more suggestions. ;)

tonyc3742 09-10-06 09:09 PM

Yeah, 1.75 is enough, especially when I have to give up one of my cd's to get it.

cdollaz 09-11-06 01:24 PM

Bwahahaha!!!! I just got rid of Arrested Development: 3 Years, 5 Months...

That must have been one of the bubbles I missed. I'm trying to get rid of the same cd.

I'm trying to use Jeremy's program, but am getting errors that say "failed to find host." Can anyone help me out here?

mndtrp 09-13-06 05:47 AM

Ha, cdollaz, I shipped my Arrested Development today.

Lunatikk, I get that occasionally. I think what I do is log into lala.com with lalawatch open. If I have my cookies set correctly (using his initial post as a guide), then it starts connecting.

Nice. I can't believe 2 people actually wanted that one.
