got 2 tickets for the monday show in SF, needed 3, but 2 is better than none, and scalping a 3rd only brings the average up a little.

The album leaked online today.

The tracks are solid, but none of them have the hooks like the songs off their first album. Other than "When You Were Young," "Sam's Town," and "Bones," there's not many memorable songs on the album.

However, with most albums I've listened to this year (such as "Black Holes and Revelations" and "Notes From the Underworld") that took me a few attempts to get fully into it, I will give it another shot during the week.

I'm about half way through and think it's better than "Hot Fuss". Of course, I thought that album was merely average. I like the little extras around some of the new songs. Anyone here familiar with the 80's band Cactus World News? For some reason Brandon reminds of their lead singer a bit (with a mix of the lead singer of the Zulus).

edit: finished the album... there is definitely some non-killer filler

Not as good as "Hot Fuss" but it definitley avoids the sophmore slump. There have to be at least 4 solid radio singles on here (Sams Town, When You Were Young, Bling (Confessions Of A King) & Bones).

I might like it more if Brandon Flowers hadn't been calling it the best album of the past 20 years for the last six months.

Loved "Hot Fuss", this just gets a minor thumbs up. I don't expect I'll be listening to it nearly as much as their first one.

I really dig While We Were Young, but there's a dark horse track on this CD that deserves a few listens - Uncle Johnny. Its like a cross of Andy, Youre a Star and Jenny Was a Friend of Mine. I really, really dig this track.

OK, having listened all day at work to this on repeat, I think it's a fine album. A bit different "sound" than the first, which I kinda miss, but I like that they are doing something different and it has a sound of it's own. I think we will look back in a year, and think any negative reviews were just missing the sound of the 1st album.

I noticed right away that Brandon didn't sound like he was singing in a cave (e.g., tons of reverb and echo on every track). In a way, that's disappointing becuase it's part of their sound, and some of the tracks sounded like they could have been a bit better with that effect.

You'd like the demos from Hot Fuss I loaded, some of them are complete reverb vocals.

Well, I'm not saying that it wasn't overdone a bit on Hot Fuss But I can't imagine Andy, You're a Star or Jenny without the heavy reverb.

this is not even close to Hot Fuss, it's decent but i'll make a few more listens before i trash it.

I like The Killers a lot, but I think they'll disappear like most other bands with a hot first record after this one.

They are nothing special, this album proves that.

Cheers

My first time through and I am not impressed at all. The whole thing keeps reminding me of Bruce Springsteen, and if I wanted to listen to Springsteen, I would be listening to him instead. I mean, the CD keeps sending me flashing back to specific moments of specific Springsteen songs and it's all just very strange.

I am not going to give up on the CD yet, just in case it takes some time to get used to. However, I am really disappointed with it right now.

Edited to add: I just went back and read the whole thread, and I saw the Pitchfork review calling this effort very Springsteen. That made me feel a bit better, because I was sitting here, "What the hell is going on with this?"

Hot Fuss was very accessible from the first listen. Every time I go through the record, i like it more and more. For the record, I hated All these things for a long time, then it just hit me how great a song it was.

This record isn't Hot Fuss. Dont' forget - Bands have their whole lives for their first record, and a few months for the next one. I think these guys are growing as artists and I look forward to growing with them.

After a first listen Im disappointed. Its hard to compare it to Hot Fuss (or unfair I should say since I love HF so much), but it just doesnt compre yet. Granted, one spin isnt enough to put all of your stock into an album. However; most of HF's songs were instant enjoyments, I can only say that about 3 songs on this one (Sam's Town, Uncle Johnny, When You Were Young). Between them and Keane, Ive been disappointed with the sophmore efforts. Ill give it some more spins before I give a definitive answer on it.

whew, glad to know someone else out there was disappointed in the new Keane record..I thought for the longest time I was the only one!

Back on topic: haven't heard it, will give it a shot though. Someone mentioned above the effort it took to get into Muse's latest...but the reward was outstanding in the end. Couldn't. Agree. More. What an album!

Now I love Under the Iron Sea, whereas H&F just never struck me.

I've listened to the record 3 times now. My initial reaction was that the record sounded very "Sgt. Pepper-like" after the first two songs and then was sort of all of the place after that.

On subsiquient listens, however, I'm liking this record. It's musically good, but no tracks really jump out at me. This might change as I tend to be really hard on music at first and have to let it grow on me.

They are trying hard not to duplicate their sound on HF, which I think is a good thing, even though I love that record. I want to see them grow.

I'm impressed. I loved Hot Fuss and was a bit warry after all of Flowers touting of this album, but it mostly lives up to the hype (not best album of the last 20 years, but pretty damn good). I'm glad they didn't just record an album of 12 "Mr. Brightside"s which they easily could have done... they have a different sound, but I'm liking the change - it doesn't feel forced and seems like a natural progression.

I've listened to it a half dozen times and it gets better with each listen. I think people just need to let it grow on them.

I like The Killers, but not a big fan of the new image. Is it just to prove they can pull off another look that eyeliner and suits. Stick to that instead of flannel and porn staches

Any good deals on this album on release day?

I know most of us are downloading now but some bands CDs I like to buy.

Amazon has it for $10.99.

Any word on Best Buy and Circuit City?
