Post your favorite song(s) so far from 2006...

My favorite threads are always those with an excuse to introduce each other to new good music and I thought this might be a good way to do this. So what's your favorite individual song or songs from what's been released so far this year? There's no wrong answer. It can be something you think is beautiful, sad, exhilarating or just plain fun. If you know of a place to, both legally and free, listen to the song online, post that too, so the rest of us can check them out.

Thin Blue Flame by Josh Ritter

Almost Summer by Jason Collett - You'll have to navigate his page a little bit, but the song can be listened to under his Music link.

I also wanted to put Oh Shoplifter by The Stills, but it looks like the music player on their website isn't up yet. If they put that song up to listen to, I'll edit to add a link.

So who's next? What're YOUR current favorites from 2006?

Marit Larsen - "Only a Fool" This is probably my favorite single song this year; it's really not my preferred style of music - fey, boppy female singer/songwriter (with banjos!) - but this is catching like the clap. My endless listening of this song is furthered by the fact that the album is only available in Norway.

Junior Bloomsday w/ Cadence Weapon - "Your Perfect Gene" This one brilliantly mixes shoegaze and hip-hop. I fookin' love this to death, and am dismayed that there's no album that this comes from, just a vinyl single.

Islands - "Jogging Gorgeous Summer" One of the best tracks off Islands album 'Return to the Sea,' and perfectly captures the upcoming season. Euphoric.

Man Man - "Black Mission Goggles" I can't say enough about how much I adore this new Man Man CD. Their Tom Waits/Animal Collective/drunken carnival style is rarely represented better than in this song. The insane child-like backing vocals are like the ultimate icing on top of an already incredible cake.

Capricorns - "1066: Born On the Bayeux" As much as I'm enjoying the Sabbath trend that's circulating in music this year, the mammoth sludge-metal instrumentals Capricorns lay out get me going more than anything from the Sword, Witch, Torche, Wolfmother (who, honestly, are as bad the Darkness, but without the spandex) or any other revivalists. This track simply rocks my face off.

Toss up between "Severed Hand" and "Marker in the Sand" by Pearl Jam.

Some great stuff on the Chili Pepper's new albums as well. Hard to pick a favorite yet since it's so long (28 tracks and I like all of them), but would probably go with either "Charlie" or "Animal Bar"

That's pretty much the playlist from XM 48 Squizz. My favorites are Speak - Godsmack and Vicarious - Tool.

Been too busy to keep up with this thread for most of the last week, so I'm playing catch up on posting links for those who couldn't find or chose not to post them.

Geofferson's favorites:
Dani California by Red Hot Chili Peppers - this link also has Josh Hinkle's favorite, Charlie
Paralyzed by Rock Kills Kid

One of Tarantino's favorites:
Kick Push by Lupe Fiasco

One of david12's favorites:
St. Elsewhere by Gnarls Barkley

Auto's favorite:
video for The Blues Are Still Blue by Belle and Sebastian

AndyCleveland's favorites:
Apologize by One Republic
Speeding Cars by Imogen Heap
video for Promiscuous by Nelly Furtado
video for Hands Open by Snow Patrol
The whole new Dixie Chicks album, including Not Ready to Make Nice (It's the 5th item on this page's menu)

Ok, that's all I have time for for now. I'm surprised how many of these bands have myspace pages. I knew it was an ok resource for finding music samples, but didn't realize the number and variety of bands/artists with stuff up there. When I have more time, I'll resume trying to find more links so we can all check out what everyone else has been enjoying lately.

Marker in the Sand has become my favorite Pearl Jam song of all time. I'm a sucker for the chorus. Sends chills up my spine. And the moment when the guitars kick in at the end is musical genius.
