Old school suggestion -
The Band - maybe more folky than country, but still good stuff

I will give one of my favorite albums of the past 10 years a mention since it might be exactly what you are looking for: Broken Promises by Rusty Truck

It is the catchiest, poppiest, rockiest, country album I have ever heard. Granted I hate country music and haven't listened to much but I never get tired of this album.

It is not really a group but a guy named Mark Seliger who has a lot of famous friends. I believe he is a magazine photographer who got into music because of his friendship with Lenny Kravitz, Jokob Dylan and others. All the songs are written by Seliger with the songs featuring Kravitz, Dylan, Sheryl Crow, Rob Thomas, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Meshell Ndegeocello, T-Bone Burnett and others.

Seliger is the lead vocalist and has a smooth not too country/kinda easy rock voice. All the songs are great to sing along to. I bought the album for just one song that i happened to catch on XM 2 years ago (Malibu Canyon) and it hasn't left my heavy rotation since. Check it out & tell me what you think. I have been meaning to start a thread about the album to see if anyone else out there is a fan but never got around to it.

Anyway, the album has 12 cuts and I love each of them (except the duet with Willie Nelson...a little too country for me).

without a doubt DBT , the best American band recording today ...glad they have been mentioned repeatedly in this thread
while the new one is solid I highly recommend "The Dirty South" followed by "Decoration Day"

also check out Slobberbone , in particular "Everything You Thought Was Right Was Wrong Today"
the band is now defunct but Brent Best's new project, The Drams , have a new record coming out at the tail end of July

I'd also highly recommend Old 97's. Ya'llternative is the way I heard their music described recently. Best starting point - "Too Far to Care".

Anything by Lucero or Drag The River is great. Just saw Lucero live this past weekend in San Diego and they were amazing.

Since we're brining this thread back to life - The Wreckers - Stand Still, Look Pretty. Give it a shot, it's unbelievable how good this record is.

Why is Google giving us gay wedding ring ads for this thread?

Still digging Drive By Truckers, Van Zant and Neil Young. Rusty Truck didn't do much for me. I did pick up a couple Kenny Chesney cd's in August that I really like.

Eric Church - sinners like me is a great country album with a rock edge you should check out. I also recommend Bobby Pinson - Man Like Me. I also second the Wreckers recommendation.

You are the only person I have ever turned on to it that has said that. Did you listen to it much or just once or twice? Most people always said that once they listened to it around three times they were humming every tune after that.

I have a Drive-By Truckers album coming from lala soon because of this thread. Crossing my fingers that I dig it.
