How is Showbiz? I love all three of Muse's latest, but haven't yet listened to Showbiz.

it's too bad, it's a pretty cool song otherwise. But I just looked up the lyrics for "Take a Bow", and even without hearing the song, I love em. The prose and the cadence sort of reminds me of "Time is Running Out" from Absolution, which I always had pretty much the same read on. You could always listen to Keith Urban. |

Feel free to debate. Keep in mind that I limit the CDs to 80 minutes (obviously) 1. Apocolypse Please 2. Sunburn 3. SBH 4. Yes Please 5. Stockholm Syndrome 6. Showbiz 7. Dead Star 8. Ashamed 9. Hysteria 10. Muscle Museum 11. Starlight 12. Citizen Erased 13. The Small Print 14. Cave 15. Invincible 16. In Your World 17. Time is Running Out 18. Futurism 19. Feeling Good I try and pick really fitting opening and begining songs for the collection and cycle through albums for the order, so whatever degree fits. |

Just out of curiosity, what would you have cut to include one or both of the above? |

Great version of it and "Sing for Absolution" has a great feel to it, really dark and love the melodies towards the end where it becomes 'unhinged'.
But cool that we like the rest! |

Gah, when I picked up the new album during the week of its release, I completely forgot about the Limited Edition version with the dvd. :(

The DVD is worth it. You should trade in the regular one and track down the limited release.

Interestingly, my first 'live' show for Muse was at the now closed Metro on 14th Street here in DC, talk about a teeny tiny venue - Muse was electrifying and threatened to cave in the ceiling, literally. If American University held more concerts at Bender Arena that would be great place to see them, a perfect large venue where I saw Soundgarden a number of years back. |
I have never heard this band before, so have no idea if this album is a 'departure' or what, but Ive been hearing Knights of Cydonia and XM and that song fucking rocks.
Coupled with Wolfmother, its nice to see a hard 70's sound trying to make a comeback |
Definitely not a departure from what the normally do. Supermassive Black Hole was a bit different, but the rest of the album is definitely in line (albeit a little more electronic) than what they normally do.
BTW, I can't stop fuckiing listing to the CD. Absolutely brilliant. |

Its now made my album of the year in the Rank em as you hear em thread

I really like City of Delusion a lot. That being said, I like Absolution on whole a lot more than Black Holes. The former has much stronger songs.

About "Showbiz". I'm sorry to say I'm not a fan. I've tried and tried. But, for me, it's just such a disjointed album. Had I listened to their work in order, and from the beginning, I'm quite positive I'd have a different opinion. But I discovered Muse fairly late in their career. About six months after "Absolution" was released. Tough act to follow, no? Then I bought "Origin of Symmetry" after burning out on that. Thought it was fantastic too. Then got "Showbiz". And sorry, it's just not on the same level as album #2 and #3. And....I just love "BHAR". I cannot wait to see them in Philly next week. Bring it on. |
Saw the show in Phoenix, and it was great. I was a bit dissapointed they didn't play invincible.
I thought Knights of Cydonia rocked in concert. After they played that, I couldn't imagine any other song coming after it, and I was right. :( Highlights were: Newborn, Sunburn, Butterflies and Hurricanes, Time is Running Out, and Knights of Cydonia. To those going to the shows, you're in for a hell of a time. |

Bought him a beer ;) He just walked around the place and hung out with everyone there. As a side note Giles, what's the best show you've seen at the Black Cat? Me? Elastica. Without a doubt. They were magnificant.

Do you remember it raining like a mofo and Donna was getting dripped on from the leaking roof and said "Bloody hell!" between songs. Very funny. I'm so pissed that band imploded. Great(er) things could have happened for them. Was Blur at the Black Cat?? Wow, that would have been killer. Never have seen them live, sadly. And they're one of my favorite bands. Prefer older Blur to new though. Tell me, you a Curve fan? Their show at the 930 was hands down the best concert I've ever seen. Anywhere. |

Curve at the old 9:30 F Street location? - yup I was there, intense is an understatemet - simply mindblowing! I agree I like 'old' blur alot better than the newer songs. Blur's gig at Nation for their 'Universal' tour was an awesome show. email me when you get the chance daytripper. |
