My five initial envelopes are like that, too.

My guess is that they feel that $0.49 is the sweet spot from a marketing standpoint and that they subsidize the extra $0.14 from the $1 you pay them.

Which YFF cd?

Anyone heard of this? I got this email on a few music lists today.

Folks - you should check out this new site: www.zunafish.com

You can turn your old CDs, DVDs, videogames, or paperbacks into new
ones. It's very cool.

You post stuff you want to get rid of, and search for stuff you want.
zunafish let the people know you're interested in their stuff, and in
turn, that person checks your list to see if there is something they
want from your list.

Posting an item is free. If a trade happens, you are charged a buck,
and then you send your item to the person and vice versa.

This is a great concept; I've done 5 trades already in a week!

I had completely forgotten about this recording (have it on vinyl) and realized the other day I need this on CD. Probably their best album.

About zunafish.com. Their model will take much more work and hassle into the whole trading process. Having to do a one-on-one trade requires haggling and lower chances of matching up. I remember some site many years ago that did this and they went under ("Swap"-something?). What makes Lala work is not having to trade with the same person.

I'm glad I just went to the post office to check on weight because all three CDs w/inserts needed an extra 24 cents. Two of them had less than 4 pages in the booklet. Urgh. I'm guessing the CD I sent out yesterday is going to be returned to me since I didn't add more postage.

I'm loving this website more and more each day. The quality discs I'm receiving compared to what I have sent out just blows me away (of course, that's purely subjective!). I've even started a little bit of blogging for the first time in my life.

I checked out zunafish and see that the trades are DVD for DVD and CD for CD. Guess that means it's not much haggling, but still requires some communication.

Now that I have 300 titles in my want list, as soon as someone receives one of my CDs and my rating goes back up to where I can receive more CDs, I get a shipment notice almost immediately--probably within half an hour. That is kind of amazing if you ask me. And my want list is mostly hard-to-find indie rock.

It may have been mentioned but what's your list/name? I still haven't fully checked this out. Probably due to the fact that I've picked up a bunch of cds the last few weeks.

My name on lala is also illennium.

If anyone is interested in a trade off the books, email me at ill_dorado at hotmail.

And yeah, I'm also drowning in new CDs. With the nice weather a lot of my local stores have started their spring sidewalk blowout sales. I think I picked up over 50 CDs this week alone.

My name is the same as on here also. I've already had one person say they like my CD collection... this BUGS me! I HATE the CDs I'm trying to trade and now someone thinks that's what I like. Funny.

Got my first cd the other day and sent out my first today.

It's funny that they tell you not to send any of the liner notes, but when you receive a cd, that is one of the options.

I was reading through their message board and it seems like in May they are going to come up with a better system for dealing with inserts. It really would be nice to have the option of not having someone send discs to you if they aren't how you'd want them.

I want to send inserts every single time and I know I'll run into a quandry if I ever sell off a digitpak. I might just pay the full shipping to send it so that person can enjoy it correctly. Of course, I have read of people NOT wanting the inserts and aren't happy about receiving them.

I've had mixed results so far; I received one CD with the booklet, but no tray insert, and while it was the CD I requested, it was the original version and not the remastered expanded version I specifically checked off. I received another with all the inserts and such, but I guess the CD came in some kind of digipak because the disc itself was in a paper slipcase with several other insert items; no idea what to do with most of it, since it isn't easily stored. I received another with just the disc, and finally, one with everything perfect, CD, booklet, tray insert. I have another six discs on the way, so I'm curious to see how these arrive.

Based on my wants, I can honestly say I would rather receive the disc only than waiting for someone to offer that same disc with the inserts or not getting it at all.

I agree with you. I'd rather receive a disc w/out than not at all. But most of the stuff I'm asking for I'm going to keep and not send on. Rather have inserts if they can send them.

Does anyone know how I can increase the number of CDs I am allowed to have in transit at once? Is it based on feedback from recipients? I am currently sitting on a stack of envelopes, waiting for recipients to acknowledge receipt of my CDs. As soon as one does, I agree to ship another, then bam, within literally minutes I have another one coming my way (which is great), and I'm back in a holding pattern (which is not so great).

It's some kind of an internal system based on "karma" points. I'm not sure how it works exactly. I was in the same situation as you for awhile. So far I have shipped 72 CD's and received 34. It's finally starting to loosen up for me a little bit more. I think I also read that they are tracking people that ship liner notes and this get's you even more karma points. Sometimes, for whatever reason I have found that it does take up to a full 2 weeks for a CD to get to it's destination.

Today I received a digipak from someone, who very kindly sent the entire package (which came with a bonus DVD) in a regular mailing envelope. Very cool of them.

How have you been able to ship 72 CDs? I see that you've been a member since March 7, but that still seems like a lot. It really is taking about 10 days for my 5 to reach their destination.

Also, I noticed you have the Baby Teeth album. Actually, you and I are the only two on lala that have it. I was just wondering how you'd heard of them. The lead singer is a friend of mine from college. Otherwise, they would have completely slipped under my radar.

I just started adding my haves yesterday. One thing I've noticed for Bob Dylan and AC/DC is that they don't have separate listings for the original CDs and the recent remasters. Some of the artwork I've seen appears to be the remaster (Back in Black), whereas other seem to be the original (Highway 61 Revisited). I've been looking through their FAQ and other support and can't find anything that addresses this. Is it just buyer beware at this point?

For me personally, I just don't want to send the original copy to someone if they're expecting the remaster. And since not everyone makes it possible for you to contact them, it doesn't seem like there's a full-proof way to state which version the disc is.

EDIT: One more thing I just encountered - what about Clean versions of CDs. I have several rap cds that are the clean version that someone gave me.

I just ship them as they are requested. It just added up quick.

You know. I haven't had much of a chance to listen to that Baby Teeth album. I found it in a local used CD store. Promo copy I believe. It looked like it might be good.
