So I saw some talk buried in the Interpol thread, so wanted to break out a new thread.

Been liking this a lot, going to see them at the end of the month, and stereogum has a link to a d/l and a live show link..

What did you think of the arctic monkeys? I'm listening to one of the live shows now from the stereogum link, sounds good.

I didn't realise Editors were getting much press, but a lot of the music blogs are talking about them which is good I guess.

maybe it was where I was standing, but I wasn't all that impressed. The Monkey's stormed through their hour long set, with out much interaction with the crowd and didn't do any encore songs. I liked the radio singles 'Fake Tales' 'Dance Floor' and last song 'A Certain Romance' but the rest of the songs were drab. They seemed a tad too desperate to impress the crowd.

Editors on the other hand - they knew how to get the crowd going, with the progession of the songs getting more and more intense. Their light show was better too.

Hard-Fi really played up to the crowd - they got the crowd really into their set. Hand's in the air, pogo-ing, sing-alongs. Their album is a bevy of potential hits. Their cover of 'Seven Nation Army' was fun, but a tad bit unnessecary. Way better than the Monkey's but Editor's took the cake for the best show of last week.

the mrs is taking me out for dinner for it, and I already switched the date such that I Could see Editors, I doubt she'd be impressed if I changed it again.

Did the rakes play with hard-fi?

Since they are billed as "UK's answer to Interpol" I like to refer to them as "the UK's answer to the US's answer to UK's Joy Division."

I listened to their debut almost continually since I got it last year (Last.fm shows them at #13 overall) and I really liked it. They might be in the same league as Interpol, but they're nowhere near as good. I think Amazon's Andrew Bartlett was spot on when he said "Editors manage energy in the service of drama" which I always thought was a problem with Interpol: too many of their dour slow songs ended up being too close to unlistenable dirges. Actually, now that I think about it, Editors has that problem too ("Distance") but they were smart to hide that near the end of the album.

Thanks for reminding me, I've been trying to get the French Kicks album for a while.

The album didn't really impress me at first listen.

I guess with The Rapture, The Walkmen, Interpol, Radio 4, French Kicks, Bloc Party, Arctic Monkeys, The Bravery, The Killers, Mates of the State, The Sounds, Maximo Park, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, Morning Runner, (admittedly all different bands in their own right, but all sharing an early 80s sound) etc etc...I'm a little sick of neo-post punk.

At least at the outset, Editors seem like yet another example, maybe I should give their album another chance.

I'll take the Editors over Interpol anyday, their music seems to be a bit more diversified than interpol...camera is a great great song.

I saw them ages ago at Bimbo's supporting Keane.

I recently came across a copy of the 2 Disc import version with the B-sides compliation - should give it a spin sometime this week.

I saw them in Frankfurt back in January. It was a great show. Unfortunately, since it was in Germany, they only played for about an hour before the show ended at 11:30 PM

But I really like their album and I look forward to seeing them again at Coachella.

11:30pm - why is that shocking? Here in DC, Editor's played a set before the headliners stellastarr* - I was really amazed how many songs they managed to squeeze in their hour long set.

Imported their disc last year, only listened to it a few times before selling it off. It's got a couple of strong tracks (Camera, Fingers In the Factories) but the rest is very same-y, blurring together without ever doing much to distinguish track from track. Even the two standout moments I mention are perfectly representative of the one-or-the-other style that Back Room has. I'd be willing to check out the b-sides and/or a sophmore album, but they'll need to spice things up quite a bit.

Interpol's got the same problems, but at least they had the fantastic "Evil" to make up for some of Antics otherwise dull songs.
