Jewel is back - (Goodbye Alice in Wonderland hits stores 2/5/06)

I've been a fan of Jewel since her debut. It got to the point where I enjoyed listening to her more than pretty much any other singer, out of all types of music. I searched for any recording of her that I could find - all of her albums, all live performances, acoustic, everything. Then came 0304, and I was just as much disapointed as most other long time Jewel fans. It was such a drastic change, not only in terms of her music, but also her as an overall performer, the way she presented herself, etc...

I've recently been listening to some of her new stuff, which will be released on 5/2/06 (Goodbye Alice in Wonderland), and it sounds to me, at least from what I've been able to see and hear so far, that she's went back in time a bit, and is back to true form. Everything from her look, to the actual music and lyrics, and even the titles of the songs. It also has more of a Country edge to what I've heard also, but in a very good way in my opinion. Check these out:

Again and Again

Goodbye Alice In Wonderland

From what I've read, Rolling Stone has called this upcoming album a big time Pieces of You-style album, and that has me really excited. I can't wait to pick this one up very soon.

Here is the Billboard review of Again and Again:

Jewel‘s fans may have had a jolly time with previous uber-pop effort "0304," but critics accused her of selling out, and consumers were ultimately indifferent. After a healthy three-year break, the honey-voiced singer/songwriter returns to more organic roots. "Again and Again" is consummate Jewel, beautifully composed and not in the least self-conscious in light of her more recent challenges at radio. So while the goods are undoubtedly in the bag, the tougher challenge will be getting Atlantic to back an artist who was once a priority -- when most of her proponents have since left the label. Adult top 40, meanwhile, should be paving a pathway in gold for Jewel‘s return. From the upcoming "Goodbye Alice in Wonderland," her sixth album, due May 2.
I can finally once again say without a doubt that she's "perfect" to me, heh.

Also, did she get braces or does she still have ... her "original" teeth?

That is what I was wondering. I really felt bad for her when she tried the bimbo crap that every other female singers seems to think is their only path to success.

This thread isn't complete until someone posts either a pic of snaggletooth, or makes a comment about her teeth.

Not that I agree, she's still hot, but the teeth comments are inevitable.

One of the reasons that I like the way Jewel looks so much is that "flaw". I like women with a small thing like that which doesn't make them cookie cutter perfect. It's the reason I like Kirsten Dunst so much, in that she looks plain to me.

I'm a longtime Jewel fan but I didn't care for "Again and again" at all. "GBAIW" was just okay. These songs are along the lines of all her "filler" songs on her other albums. She's losing her touch.

By the way, to that other guy, her "snaggletooth" is hot!

I dig Jewel. The new one isn't very high up on my purchase list, but it is on there.

Yay! Time for a good album! For my tastes (and I love Jewel), it seems that every other album (well, discounting her Christmas album) has been great, the others so-so at best.

I hope this album sounds more like "Pieces of You" than "0304"

For those that like POY, check out "Let it Die" by Feist.

I doctored the photos I posted to cover up the tooth. Does that count?

I got it. I like it - each and every song. A few had to grow on me, but they did. They grew on me without mercy and made me their bitch.

Even if the CD didn't sell that well, I am glad to have her back after that 0304 debacle. I love me some Jewel, but those were some dark, dark days.
