Looking for bands that signified 'drugs' by decade
I'm trying to offer assistance to my 14-yr-old daughter. Her and a friend are putting a speech together about bands from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s whose drug use greatly influenced their music (as opposed to just musicians who 'did' drugs).
Here's what I came up with initially:
60s
Beatles
70s
Grateful Dead
80s
?????????
90s
I originally had Kurt Cobain, but I'm unsure about that one...
Any ideas?

1960s: I disagree a little bit with The Beatles and would lean more toward Jefferson Airplane.
1970s: Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Greatful Dead.
I'll have to think a bit longer on the latter decades.

sublime for the 90's....the singer (brad nowell) felt that heroin helped him write music. of course he later died of an OD.
if it doesnt have to be popular bands than psychic tv is heavily influenced by LSD...i cant remember if they started in the 80's or 90's though and im to lazy to google it.

I mentioned poison but it was probably a stretch. I meant more of what drugs did to their band and how they fell apart. I didn't think they had much talent to begin with but their overindulgence certainly caused their downfall (and general lack of talent). Either way, I guess Poison is a bit of a stretch anyway. Also, I think The Beatles should be on the list. Brian Wilson, during and after Pet Sounds should be on there as well. The work he did with Van Dyke Parks was pretty heavily drug influenced.

Good one.
I had also thought of Happy Mondays, but I wasn't sure if the band itself was into the whole drug scene (though it's pretty clear the music is geared toward that "crowd")
