Genesis to reunite with Peter Gabriel

Some people are saying these reports are mixed up with the Cars reunion announcement.

Genesis eye comeback

Genesis are set to reform to record a new album and go on tour, according to reports.

Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins are reportedly planning to make the announcement at a press conference on Tuesday in Los Angeles.

Gabriel left Genesis in 1976 and has since had a successful solo career.

Genesis' last studio album, 'Calling All Stations', was released in September 1997, reaching number two in the album chart.

A new album from a reformed Genesis would surely prove a hit with the band's legion of fans.

That would be wonderful, but I'll be a little surprised if it happens. As an aside, I love all eras of Genesis, and was quite disappointed they called it quits after one album with Ray Wilson.

Didn't they reunite once already? I remember them all being together for something in the Genesis Behind the Music episode.

They got back together to re-record an old song ("The Carpet Crawlers") for their greatest hits collection. Very nifty version.

They did a one off concert at Milton Keynes in 1982. It was with both Gabriel and Collins taking turns at vocals. THis was before the band went off the deep end into worthless pop fluff. One can only hope the tour will focus on early and mid era material. I don't have any desire to hear Collins do Illegal Alien, I Can't Dance and Throwing it all Away.

This could be cool. I'd like to hear more about it, when the info should arise.

Same here.

Hopefully, it won't take 5 years to put out a new album like typical Gabriel.

5 years? That's being generous! Although, he hasn't had any trouble releasing crap loads of DVD with his 'Growing Up' tour.

Though to all the Phil Collins haters out there (and not that I'm boasting at all, but) I'd bet he'd be the main reason this project would get in the spotlight.

So I see Phil and Peter's names mentioned.. what about Steve....? I'd love to hear what the group of them would come up with these days together! Of course, it would all come crumbling down in the end anyway with Steve wanting to do more, Phil complaining about the name and expectations of "Genesis", Peter letting his mind wander away from the rest of them while wanting to do the lion's share, and Tony getting upset that the new album isn't selling well and wanting to call it quits again. (this was a sarcastic/fun jab.. I love the lot of them, really!)

I don't believe Peter Gabriel will ever do anything again. I'm still wating for his next release, and have been waiting forever.

Would love it, though.

Forever? It's only been four years since Up. That's like two weeks in Gabriel Standard Time.

I know this one's gonna bite me in the ass, so I'm putting on my flame-retardent clothing:

I think Genesis with Phil Collins at the helm was WAAAYYY better (and more fun, more accessible, etc) than Genesis with Peter Gabriel. In fact, I didn't give 2 shits about the group until the early 1980's. But, then again, I'm 42, so that puts me at 18 in 1982, which would probably preclude me from being interested in the progressive rock scene of the 1970's, of which the P.G. version of Genesis was a big part, I guess. I'm not a fan of the endless-solo-doodling and "heady" lyrics that come with most prog-rock (and I've been a rock musician - multiple instruments - for 30 years as well).

I know that's how a lot of people feel and I'm not even that much of a prog rock fan (Not into Yes, ELP etc), but early Genesis sounds like nothing else in rock. I can still listen to Foxtrot or The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway and be blown away. Don't ask me what the lyrics mean. Gabriel's vocals still amaze me. I did get into the Phil Collins led group up until Duke but they truly became wretched after that.

I'd have to agree. Not that the early stuff is bad, I just like 'em better with Phil [Well, at least from Duke to Invisible Touch and a couple of tracks on We Can't Dance].

I would Pay Good Money to See Genesis again with Phil at Helm (Saw them in 1983)..before they went Stadium Style..
Maybe they could do a Eagles style thing with Peter and Phil doing solo stuff also..
The Cash machines would be cranking fast...This would be the most anticipated concert for me outside of Led Zeppelin (can dream)...just saw Plant perform and he is still awesome..

I was bummed that Phil Collins was no longer touring, hopefully this will come to fruition.
