DEVO2.0 - wtf?

What in the name of holy hell is this?

It's apparently Devo-sanctioned, because Gerry Casale is part of the DVD:
Prepare to have your jaw drop: link

It's Disney-fied Devo Talk about devolution.

I'd rather have kids interested in Devo than Mariah Carey. all the way.

Oh, and this video of 5th graders doing "whip it" is great.

That's funny. Although nothing they are involved in today can be any worse than the music they put out post-1984. Well, *just* maybe this! haha

BTW, they put on the best concert I saw last year.

From what little I know of Devo, this seems to be in keeping with their typically subversive, postmodern style.

My first reaction is to be aghast, but then I see that these kids may actually be playing their own instruments and at least that counts for something.

Yep, I was horrified when I first saw/heard it, but then the concept hit me. It works well with the Devo mythos (but not enough for me to buy it, LOL).

Okay, just spent some time watching the videos. I still think this is hilarious. Geez, I actually learned the proper lyrics to a couple of songs by listening to them pronounce the words clearer ("Girl U Want").

Not on the album, but apparently they're getting pretty proficient with them now.

Ha. That was my first reaction too after seeing an article in Billboard a couple months back.

I don't know if I'd run out and buy the CD, but it's really not that bad. Neat that they covered more than just the hits ("Cyclops" and "The Winner", especially), although they really butchered a couple of songs like "Big Mess" and "Through Being Cool", even if it was actually Devo themselves doing the butchering.

According to Wikipedia, it's Devo who's doing the music and the children who are providing the vocals.

Well, it seems to be ok with the band. I haven't heard any of these songs yet, but they may be alright.

Sounds more clever than a typical "cover band".

It's like Raffi... only with thinly-veiled maturbatory references!

Shouldn't (logically) These kids have to be the offspring of the original Devo members to be considered to be Devo 2.0?

I was at Target last night and saw this CD. Knowing nothing about this project, my first inclination was to start a thread - with the exact same title.

As others have said, there's far worse kids music out there.

This is supposed to come out mid-March but Target got it last week. They have an exclusive w/two bonus vids and one cd. It was $11.98 last week for both.

I meant to start a thread last week about this.

DEVO is the band that got me away from the embarrasing stuff I was listening to "back in the day". I still play some of their stuff and my kids love it. I have the DVDs w/their vids and the kids really love that stuff.

So when I found out about this I had to get it. Well the kids love it and it's not that bad. Some of the lyrics have been changed and the lead singer's voice isn't the greatest. The girl on keyboards have an interesting voice. But she gives great dance moves and facial expressions that keep the videos fun to watch. And believe me I've seen them a bunch of times since that's all the kids want to see.

I'm okay with it-much better than Barney and the regular kids stuff. Our kids also love the stuff by They Might Be Giants.

I love how they they got rid of all the negativity in the songs- the "not for me" in Beautiful World becomes "for me too."
