Then they released Damnation, and I read that it was all soft vocals and I scooped it up. Loved every minute of it. Picked up Lamentations (their DVD) and enjoyed it, and was stunned to hear a song in the first set (the "quiet" set if you will) that was not on the Damnation album called "Harvest." I heard that set 2 would be far more aggressive, and I just left it to run through as I did other things in the house. And somehow, it grew on me.
Opeth is a perfect example for this thread since they have two very distint styles. Both of which have their own albums. After you hear Damnation(a damn brilliant album), you think how can this band create such cookie cutter music on the other ablums with cookie monster vocals. A definite shame to hear Mikael Aukerfeldt's brilliant voice only to see it wasted on other albums.

*Sidenote: Mikael Aukerfeldt had a part in Ayreon's: The Human Equation CD that mixed a couple growls, with mostly Damnation style singing. The growls served a purpose though on the album and worked quite well.

Speaking of which, I've always wondered how you pronounce is first name.

I know I'll probably get beat for this, but I'd like Coldplay alot more if Chris Martin would cut back on all the falsetto and work on his lyrics.

"And birds go flying at the speed of sound, to show you how it all began?"

I would really like Pearl Jam if they stopped ripping off Creed so much.

I'd really like Nickleback if they would stop changing their sound and just stick with what works for them.

Opeth without the growling? Gorillaz without rap? I dunno, they seem like key elements to each band's success.

I'd like the White Stripes more with a better drummer. Don't get me wrong, great band, but I think they could be better.

The drummer is what makes the White Stripes!! Unbridled, furious passion on a drumkit!

Good to know I'm not the only one who doesn't like the new Cornell. Seems like he whines through every Audioslave song.

Lemmy (of Motorhead, of course) once had this to say about Yngwie:

"Do you know why Yngvie J. Malmsteen includes the J in the spelling of his name?"

"Why?" I asked.

"To seperate him from all the other fucking Yngwie Malmsteens in the phonebook, that's why!"

<much laughter ensued>

Although I already am a fan, I'd like the White Stripes even more if they had a bass player.
(Can't Jack White find a fake brother or cousin for this role?)
