Re: Arctic Monkeys "Humbug"

I absolutely agree with you OP. I loved Favourite Worst Nightmare, but I'm finding Humbug to be very mediocre. The only songs that I really care for at all are My Propeller, Crying Lightning, and Secret Door and I'd take any of the songs off of "Nightmare" over those any day. I really hope their next effort is a return to form.

On a semi-related note, I was a little disappointed in the recent Live DVD they released too. I expected a very energetic performance and what I saw was rather ho-hum.

Definitely a disappointment. Too many of the songs sound the same. I do like the song Secret Door.

it doesn't surprise me in the slightest that NME gave the album a 7 (out of 10) rating - but of course the Arctic Monkeys are their poster children.

I saw them 'live' and they didn't impress then either. It was kind of like watching paint dry.

Yeah, that's a good way to describe the DVD. They seemed bored, therefore I was bored.

That's about what I would give it. A grade of: "C"....or "C-".

I'll be the lone dissenter on this release. Got it the first week of release and have been listening to it pretty regularly. I enjoyed the first two Arctic Monkeys' CDs, but I really like the direction the group has gone in on this CD. Thumbs up!

I re-listened to the CD last night and like it much better than a year ago.

Arctic Monkeys - "AM" 9/10

They're back! And thank God, after that last ho hum album. "AM" is now streaming for free on iTunes, out on 9/10. And.....I think it's the best thing they have done to date. It's fucking fantastic! Album of the year.

So hoping I can someday catch them in concert in England some day.
I'm planning on going back again this march/april, but probably couldn't get that lucky.

Check their tour schedule on their website, most of the shows in the U.S. are sold out. And all of the shows in England and Scotland are sold out. They are playing three sold out shows at the Wiltern in Los Angeles.

I've seen them live twice, but not in several years.

XFM London played the entire album earlier today, it's sounds amazing. maybe their best work.

Holy shit!

Arctic Monkeys’ fifth record is absolutely and unarguably the most incredible album of their career. It might also be the greatest record of the last decade.

"Think Bowie, think The Beatles, think Stevie Wonder and think Bob Dylan. From this point on, Arctic Monkeys can do whatever they want, sound however they like, and always be Arctic Monkeys"

"So yes, look at the score, listen to the record, and bask in the glory of knowing that while this may be chapter five of the complete history, it’s the first act of the real golden age"

NME used to talk about Oasis like this. Now they're in the Where are they Now? file.

Picked this up a couple of days ago.

So far I'm not impressed, but it might grow on me.

Re: Arctic Monkeys - "AM" 9/10

I'm late to the party on this one. I used to really dig these guys but then lost interest with the last record...so imagine my surprise when a girl at the local record store recommended this to me and I decided to check it out...now a month later, I've barely stopped listening to it, despite having great new albums from other bands I love. This thing kicks ass from start to finish and is easily their best album. Do I Wanna Know is starting to catch on at rock radio here, so hopefully others like me who didn't have this on their radar will check it out. Absolutely love it and ranks as one of my top 5 albums of the year, hands down.

Re: Arctic Monkeys - Discussion

New album is out today. Wow. I thought Suck and See wasn't that good. This is just slow and boring. More like "Antarctic Monkeys".
