Well, 1990 and 1991 were mostly leftovers from the 80s in terms of music styles. Then there's a lot of alternative and gangsta rap. Then you got the late 90s with pop making a big return, and the return of 'fun' rock and rap (although fun may not necessarily equal better). It's just such a mixed bag to be judged as a whole. The idea conjures up everything from Sonic Youth and ALL, to Kris Kross and Color Me Badd, to Green Day and Offspring, to Snoop and Coolio, to Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls, to Nine Inch Nails and KMFDM, to Vanilla Ice and Gerardo, to Barenaked Ladies and Third Eye Blind...

BRITPOP.

So yes, yes it was a GREAT decade for music.

90's killed synth. not as good as the 80's! but good old DM hung on!

In the last 60 years, there's no such thing as a bad decade for music. If you're only seeing bad music for a 10 year period, you're not looking hard enough...

Most of the 90s was crap, with the (very) occasional nugget of gold.

With amazing albums from U2, Guns N Roses, Metallica, and REM, the early 90's were great.... Pop/Teen idol music went down the tubes though starting with New Kids on the Block. Think about it, before NKotB, The Beatles and Poison (not comparing the two, that would be tragic) were made for teeny boppers-- but they at least wrote and played instruments and some would say they had some "decent" songs ...compare that to 'Nsync and Backstreet Boys.

In the general, what-was-popular sense.. no.

No better or worse than any other decade.

Boy bands. Gangsta Rap. Country Music "mainstream". Grunge.

Early 90's yes. It took a dive around 95 to all the other crap listed. Not to mention all the bands still clinging to the early 90's sound to make a quick buck. Creed, Bush & Nickleback, I'm talking to you guys.

I enjoyed the music of the '90's alot more than I did the 80's...even if i am a child of the 80's.

I enjoy some 80's music...but the 1990's holds a special place in my heart.
