New Order: Singles [2xCD] - 12/06/05
New Order issuing 'Singles' double disc
NEW YORK (Billboard) - British post-punk pioneers New Order will next month release a double-disc compilation billed as the first career-spanning album featuring their singles in chronological order.
The North American edition of "Singles," due December 6 via Rhino Records, also boasts a bonus track of the Secret Machines' remix of "Temptation."
Beyond such staples as "Blue Monday," "Bizarre Love Triangle," "True Faith," "Regret" and "Ceremony," the set features a Rich Costey radio edit of "Waiting for the Sirens' Call" (the title cut from New Order's latest studio album) and the 7-inch version of "Turn."
Meanwhile, New Order will return to live duty in the coming days for a Thursday show at London's Brixton Academy and a November 14 gig in its Manchester hometown. The latter show will feature support from A Certain Ratio, marking the first time the two bands have played together since 1988.
Two days later, New Order will be inducted into the U.K. Music Hall of Fame in London, and the band is expected to perform at the ceremony.
Meanwhile, "Guilt Is a Useless Emotion" has been tapped as the latest North American club single from "Waiting for the Sirens' Call" and will be released digitally on November 29. Earlier singles "Jetstream" and "Krafty" both peaked at No. 3 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.

I might pick this up for a decent price. Most of my New Order collection never got switched over to CD.
Saw these guys at Coachella and they still put on a pretty good show. It's funny though becuase they were really grumpy onstage.

Substance (1987)
The Very Best of New Order (1994)
The Best of New Order (1995)
The Rest of New Order (1995)
International (2002)
Retro (boxed set) (2002)
Judging by the track listing, the "Singles" comp looks like "The Best of New Order" with some lesser later stuff added. IMO, anything after "Regret" is pretty middling.
I think a better compilation would have been a one disc b-sides and rarities. If it included some of the great stuff off the second disc of Substance, some of the stuff off of their classic "1981" EP, b-sides from the excellent Blue Monday and Confusion singles, some Peel sessions stuff etc would have been great.

No kidding - I was going to say the same thing.
How about rather than constantly issuing "hits" discs, they instead re-master the back cataloge. Most of those albums could desperately use it.

So sue me, I've never bought Substance. Can anyone find a better price for the new comp than CDUniverse? $17.49 ?

Substance contained much dancier versions of a lot of the songs. I prefer many of the originals and the new collection has the older versions of Ceremony and Temptation I like better.
