I've heard the album several times, it's decent too, I just don't get all the hype they are getting. This is coming from a huge talking heads fan btw. Magnolia Electric Co. blew them away at the show in Philly, I'm glad the show thinned out after all the people who paid $10 to see a 40 minute set of CYHSY left.

I just got this cd. I don't really get all of the Talking Heads/Arcade Fire comparisons. On a couple of songs the guy sounds like David Byrne but the music doesn't sound like Talking Heads to me. And I don't get The Arcade Fire comparisons at all except I think I heard a marimba on one song. To me they sound like a bit of The Killers and Modest Mouse. Not as pop as the killers but not as weird or interesting as Modest Mouse.
But I really like the cd. Their show in atlanta sold out really quickly, before I even knew who they were.

I see the Talking Heads comparison strictly based on the lead singer sounding like Byrne at numerous points. I hadn't heard them compared to Arcade Fire but that's pretty odd. I wouldn't associate the two at all. Unless people were saying that CYHSY are this year's Arcade Fire as the "it" band if you will?

i think the talking heads comparisons come from the quirky sound of the music, with the keyboards and guitar play. i like the band, but the singer's voice is very grating and sounds nothing like byrne.

I got this through a friend's reccomendation, and just don't see what all the hype is about? I'd thrown this one in the same lot as Wolf Parade, which also, did absolutley nothing for me.
I'm not saying that I think it's bad, or anything - but they're just not my bag, and I don't get what all the fuss is about. Is it just because they are (or are supposed to be) 'so different'? What am I missing?
Maybe it's just that I prefer my music with a bit more melody, to be a little less chaotic, and have a singer who actually sing. Then again, as much as I could appreciate the Talking Heads, I never thought much of David Bryne, either.
I'd be curious to know how they hold up live, as sometimes, THAT is the element that is missing.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
This band is really an amazing group of indie rockers. The lead singers voice is very unique. They made and produced thier own album without a record company. They are becoming kinds of the indie rock world. Anyone know them? I can't stop listening to thier album.

from pitchfork:
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah Announce American Tour
Amy Phillips reports:
Doesn't it seem like every other time you walk into a "hip" restaurant, boutique, or record store lately, they've got the Clap Your Hands Say Yeah album on the stereo? And are NPR and the New York Times required by law to mention the band at least once a week now or something?
Well, everybody's current favorite bootstrap-raising success story is only going to seep even deeper into the national subconscious, as they have just announced the itinerary for their first-ever American headlining tour. (No pesky National to steal their thunder this time.) It will kick off March 6 in frontman Alec Ounsworth's hometown of Philadelphia, wind its way down south for a little Langerado and SXSW action, head west and back, all in time to end up in the band's adopted home of New York City in mid-April.
As previously reported, the band's self-titled debut comes out January 23 in the UK courtesy of Wichita, with the album's second British single, "In This Home On Ice", due February 20. They'll support the album's release with a European tour in February.
Here's what the next few months look like for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, with the European and American treks smooshed together all cozy-like:

I've only heard the "Yellow Country Teeth" song on the radio. The guy's voice is frickin' annoying, with all that abrasive whining and his voice actual cracks a couple of times. I don't know how they OK'd that take in the studio...

A very overrated band, IMO. The Canadians seem to own this particular brand of post-punk these days. Wolf Parade and Arcade Fire are the real deal.

I caught an Alec Ounsworth "solo" show last night--and by "solo," that means Alec Ounsworth playing with a different band. This band is really a forum for Alec to let his (much more natural) inner-Dylan out, and with great results. They played a great set, and they did mention that they'd have an album out within a few months (just in time for the CYHSY tour, perhaps?).
