I might see them on august 11, and was wondering if this show would be worth driving all the way down to dc to see at the 9:30 club?

I've never seen Kings of Leon or the Helio Sequence so I cannot comment on those.

As for the secret machines...If you don't mind staring straight into a few billion-watt lightbulbs, each positioned behind a band member, facing straight at the crowd, and straight into your eyes, turning off only two or three times in the sixty minute set down...well, I'd say enjoy.

Literally, when they opened for Interpol I looked at the floor the whole time. There were even moments when I completely turned around because I could not take the blazing lights in my face. Didn't matter though, because looking at the stage would mean that you would get to see a band playing...which I couldn't. They are just shadows, barely visable at any moments. Either you saw the lights, or it was pretty damn dark.

Not a complete bust though. Musically they were unreal. Never in my life have I heard any musicians (three members or ten) create a sound that was so sonically dense. It felt like the club was going to explode from the pressure at some moments. But, I didn't enjoy it at all because of the lights. But maybe they have changed their whole stage setup. Ask around on their website to see what you can find out.

FYI, the shows in Chicago and Milwaukee are selling like.........the opposite of hotcakes. You can get into the Milwaukee show for free (two drink minimum). So if you're interested, you might want to wait til the show date, see if they start dumping tickets.

Yes. But that's because I love Kings of Leon & Secret Machines. I'd probably pay $40 to see them. Unfortunately they won't get my $$ since they aren't coming to TX (not announced yet at least).

Do you like the bands or have you not heard them? You didn't mention that in your post and that would be a pretty big factor in attending I suppose.

lets just say, the only kings of leon song i have heard is the one that is always played on the radio. and they were supposingly great opening for u2.

I saw Kings of Leon open for U2; they were dreadful. I never want to visit Leon, if they're the kings of it.

I've seen Kings of Leon twice (opening for The Strokes and U2), was disappointed both times. On the other hand, I've seen Secret Machines twice and they blew me away both times, so they're worth $25 alone for me!

I saw Helio Sequence open for Secret Machines last summer and was very impressed. I like the Secret Machines, but standing in a club watching them do some mellow Pink Floyd moments was a tad bit boring. Helio Sequence was GREAT. Entertaining duo... the drummer could put on an Animal costume and be all set.

also apparently at the recher the night before the show at 930, secret machines and hello sequence will play sans kings of leon for 10 bucks less.

I wouldn't pay to see any of those band. So, no.

i wouldn't buy a kings of leon album, but they did rock live. oh, and the helio sequence is pretty exciting live as well.

I saw the show in SF, and it was excellent KoL were fantastic, and without ever having heard secret machines, I was very impressed.

well worth it to my mind, shows were sold out in SF. a 3 night run at the fillmore.

I'd say yes, considering I'm a fan of both Kings of Leon and Secret Machines. I saw Kings of Leon when they were in Dallas in February, and it was one good time.

I love both Secret Machines and Helio Sequence and think Kings of Leon is better-than-decent. I'd go.

well, i just got tix to what the club sonar is calling "the sin city tour featuring kings of leon" for 15 bucks. They make mention that its an 18+ show, so maybe strippers and such.

Absolutely. Definitely one of the best shows I have ever been to.

However, Snowden may be one of the biggest turds to ever walk the planet.

The Features weren't bad at all, too bad the sound mixer ruined their show by having the kick drum and bass over-power everything else.

Kings of Leon have awesome albums but I've heard their shows aren't very good. So no.

Their show was completely badass last night. It's always a welcome surprise to see a band that isn't over-produced.

i would play $25 just to see the helio sequence. but.. everytime i've seen them it's always been $8 or less.

I love Kings of Leon, but I've never seen them live. Sometimes good music may not translate into good live events. But I'd definitely pay $25 to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Secret Machines I'm lukewarm about. They have decent music, but it's mostly hit and miss with me. Who knows though, sometimes you're not too big on a band and then you see them live and they change your mind.

KoL are sensational Live.. one of the better shows I saw of the last couple of years, and I thought Secret Machines were great, I've seen them since as headliners and have become a big fan.
