Country Stars Gone Wild: Mindy McCready Overdoses

Mindy McCready Hospitalized After Overdose

By JOE EDWARDS,
Associated Press Writer

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Troubled country singer Mindy McCready has been hospitalized in Florida after an overdose.

McCready, 28, was found unconscious Friday in a hotel lobby, according to authorities in Pinellas County, Fla. An incident report did not list the nature of the overdose.

Last week, McCready was charged in Arizona with identity theft and other counts. Within the past two years, she has also faced allegations of driving under the influence and a drug violation.

Dennis Tomlin, who had been her attorney until midday Monday, declined comment on the singer's situation Monday night except to say the singer has retained another lawyer.

Tomlin said earlier Monday that McCready had gone to Florida "to visit her mother when she found out about the potential charges in Arizona. The stress got to her and she ended up in the hospital."

He said then that she was in intensive care.

Details concerning the charges filed last week in Mohave County, Ariz., were not immediately available. Besides identity theft, charges against McCready included attempted fraudulent scheme and artifices, unlawful imprisonment and hindering prosecution.

Tomlin said last week that the singer was helping Arizona authorities apprehend a con artist who had bilked her and other celebrities out of large sums of money.

He did not elaborate on the details and declined to discuss them Monday night.

In May, McCready was charged in Tennessee with driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.

Last year, she pleaded guilty to fraudulently obtaining the painkiller OxyContin at a pharmacy. She was fined $4,000, sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to perform 200 hours of community service.

She was scheduled to be in a Williamson County court Monday for a probation violation hearing. A judge ordered Tomlin to produce an affidavit from her doctor by Wednesday.

McCready had a No. 1 hit in 1996, "Guys Do It All the Time."

I found out who she was when she was engaged to Dean Cain few years ago. Then they broke off their engagement. Now it seems that she's just getting herself in trouble with the law.

Is she still even recording?

Sounds like she's getting her life back in order:
McCready Hospitalized After Overdose

Country singer Mindy McCready was hospitalized after overdosing on antidepressants early Friday following a quarrel with the father of her unborn child. She was in fair condition Friday afternoon, officials said.

According to a police report, McCready and William McKnight were arguing on the phone about whether his parents would help pay for the pregnancy. He cursed at McCready and she became angry and took about 30 antidepressant pills, the report says.

After McKnight called her back and she didn't answer, he called police and an ambulance.

McCready's lawyer did not return a phone message to his office.

McCready, 29, has had a series of legal and personal problems in recent months, including a drunken driving arrest in Nashville, a suicide attempt and an arrest in Arizona on charges stemming from her involvement with a con man she said she was trying to help police catch.

McKnight was also charged earlier this year with trying to kill her. McCready said he punched her in the face and tried to choke her.

Last year, McCready was charged with obtaining the painkiller OxyContin fraudulently at a pharmacy. She pleaded guilty and was placed on three years' probation.

McCready had a No. 1 hit in 1996 with "Guys Do It All the Time."

Mindy is hot as fire, and is as sweet as can be when you meet her in person. Well, she was back in 99-01, so I don't really know about now. I also love her voice, always will. It's a shame to see her fall so hard like this. Besides the song that most know her by, Guys Do It All The Time, she also sings a few of my all time favorite Country songs:

-10,000 Angels
-Maybe He'll Notice Her Now

I also love I Scream Your Name, A Girl's Gotta Do What A Girl's Gotta Do, and You'll Never Know.

The girl had the potential to be one of the biggest names in Country music, she really did.

Re: Country Stars Gone Wild: Mindy McCready Overdoses

If only she had taken her Glaxo(TM) as she was told to do multiple times on camera on my acclaimed show, Celebrity Rehab.

I was tireless in encouraging her to take her Glaxo(TM) and as I explained to her, Glaxo(TM) is a lifesaver. Glaxo(TM) can help BUT ONLY IF THE PATIENT ALLOWS Glaxo(TM) TO WORK.

I am heartbroken that Mindy did not follow my directive to take Glaxo(TM).

Glaxo(TM) could have saved her life.

If you or anyone you know is feeling depressed, take Glaxo(TM) as soon as you are able to.

Consult your Glaxo(TM) dispensing physician.

That's Glaxo(TM).

Again, I repeat.

Glaxo(TM)

This thread is so old, it doesn't even mention her relationship with Roger Clemens. Another black mark on his Hall Of Fame chances.

That's what really stood out when I read she had killed herself. She claimed to have had a long-term affair with Roger Clemens that began when she was 15.
